Hi,

My first thread so I'll be fascinated to see how the system works and the responses generated. I have just bought an SLR digital camera (Nikon D40X) and zoom lens and now need to buy a sturdy bag to protect my kit. The reason for me needing as bomb proof a bag as possible is that I do a lot of outdoor stuff and am a member of a mountain rescue team in Scotland. On occasions looking after my camera gear will be the last thing on my mind and I would therefore like to buy the right item from the outset. Dare I also suggest I would ideally like something that is at least damp proof as it has been know to rain on the Scottish mountains.

If you're looking for a backpack then take a look at Lowepro. I used to have a Lowepro MiniTrekkar AW. The AW part means "All Weather" so if your out an about and it rains, pop the cover on and protected!

However the bag I'm on about is quite big. But plenty of room for expansion for those lenses you make purchase in the future. Lowepro do a vast range of bags and you'll find one to hopefully suit your requirements.

There are plenty of brands out there, crumpler I have heard good things about.

I currently have a Tamrac 5549 which holds a 17" Laptop! However I'm looking to expand further now, due to a new lens arrival.

Ed :)

First thing that comes to mind would be one of the Lowepro AW (All weather) models. Which one depends on the amount of kit you have in it. If it's just the body and a single lens the mini trekker might do.

Iv got a Lowepro AW 160 which fits the camera body and lens but could probs fit in another lens too. its small ish and weatherproof etc and not too expensive :D
