Hi my nikon 300mm 2.8 lens was being repaired by nikon for faulty motor and estimate came in at 1690 to repair. Lens come back today and this is what it said on repair dispatch note.

Fit new spare parts, as listed, SWM was not required however the inner housing unit was causing the AF issues and this part has been replaced.

Infinity focus and lens resolution checked.

Lens communication and Aperture function checked.

AF functionality and accuracy checked - recalibrated if necessary.

Focus ring functionality checked and ajusted if necessary.

Elements cleaned and optical alignment checked.

Check, test and clean equipment.

Would the inner housing cost as much as a motor? Even tho the quote is based on a motor.

Nikon not sent price for parts used.

Labour is £70+VAT an hour, or at least was on my d700 and 16-35 repair. I would imagine a good few hours to strip and test a lens.
My total bill would have been £650 ish for a new pcb on the d700 and new aperture assembly and lens mount.

I would guess that dissembling a lens like that that isn't an easy job, so the labour could account for a big chunk of that.

I recently dropped my Nikon 24-70. None of the glass was broken. It needed a new zoom unit. The lens that came back was a new one which I registered with Nikon. The repair bill was £675.

I recently had cause to look for someone to repair my Nikon. It seemed to have a problem with the card slot. I contacted a Nikon approved shop wh wanted £170 put in a new slot and maybe more but without looking at the camera they couldn't be certain. I did not have this money spare so shopped around. Found a great guy name Alan Marlow who repairs both Canon and Nikon and I guess other makes. He checked the camera over, replaced damaged card slot with a new Nikon one ang charged £80 all in. That included registered and insured postage. He communicated everyday keeping me up to date. Camera works fine now and I would not hesitate to use him again.

Thanks for the replies, i just phoned the shop and when nikon forwards the invoice next week i will find out. Still dont think it should be 1690 now that motor has not been changed. Not sure how much inner housing unit cost, but cant be price of a motor, i could be wrong.
