I am looking at buying a canon 24-70 lens or a 24-105 lens for my 7d , looking for it to be for general use plus able to do landscape . Which one would be best suited .

17-55 IS or 15-85 IS on a 7D. 24mm at the wide end is far too limiting IMHO.

There is a very mixed feeling whether 24mm is wide enough for a crop body. Personally I feel for my photography it is and I'd recommend the 24-105 lens.

I think for general use the IS and longer focal range would be more benefit and for landscape I don't think you need the F 2.8.

The 24-105 is on my list

This.

Better focal length range, and IS. 17-55 is 2.8 as well.

Or the Sigma 10-20mm - also a cracking lens although none Canon

Les :D

I use my 24-105 f4 L about as much on my 7D as I do on the 5D2 it came with. I don't take much in the way of landscapes but it's definitely wide enough for the 5D2 (for what I want) but not quite wide enough on the 7D. It's a cracker of a lens though, IQ is superb on both bodies.
