Hi guys, new to the forum so first of all hello everyone!

Just after a little bit of advice, if anyone would be so good as to spare the time. I have a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 non VC lens, (Nope, it's not one of THOSE posts asking if it's worth upgrading to a VC version ... ) I've always been impressed with it, but recently the left side of the image has started to appear soft. Here is a test shot I just took to illustrate what I mean:

The question is, do you think the lens is worth the cost of sending in for a service to Tamron? Bearing in mind I could pick up another second hand one for around £150 at the moment. (It's well out of warranty.) Or do you think I should just chalk it up to experience and save up for a better lens?

Cheers for taking the time to read this,

Dan

Hi Dan, and welcome to TP

Tamron use a company called Intro 2020 for their repairs in the UK and I can wholeheartedly recommend them. I sent a 28-75mm f/2.8 lens off to them after it started to develop odd focussing issues - sometimes it was great others it was off a bit. Anyway, they repaired the fault - loose element inside - and calibrated the lens for me and I got change from £50

I had thought the lens was sharp before but after I got it back it was epic!

Their phone number is 01628 799902 or email is service@intro2020.co.uk - gotta be worth having a word with them :)

Hope that helps :)

Ring them up, I've found them to be helpful when I needed it.

Thanks guys, got in touch with them and it is on its way to the service centre now.

Cheers for your advice.

Pretty sure I watched a vid on YouTube showing you how to tighten them up when they go like that....

I know the video you mean, I think that's just for when the front filter ring is loose though, not for correcting mis-aligned elements. Might be wrong though. :-)
