Gentlemen, I need a spot of advice on buying a DSLR.
There is a chance that I will be relocating to Kenya for a couple of years, and that means a DSLR is much more easy to manage compared to the 35mm ( shipping films back to uk every so often will be a chore)
So I was thinking of my options for affordable, full frame DSLR; and came to the following choice
1. Nikon 610. Affordable, and can use my legacy lens. Long lens will be very useful for the safari etc. Good review
2. Sony A 900 Can use my Maxxum legacy lens. Good reviews, SLR, but how is it in real life
3 Sony A7: Can use a much wider range of legacy lens, especially my Contax G and C/Y lens No AF with most lens though.
My priority is picture quality straight out of the camera. This will be my general use camera, not for
One thing that I worry about is the shutter lag in the Sony cameras, not sure if it is any significantly worse than the true DSLRs.
Any body has any experience with any of these cameras. Any advice, pros/cons etc. And have I missed out any other good options. I am happy to buy pre owned for any discontinued model if that fits the bill.
Not really interested in non full frame options.
Ideas, or other suggestions, please

I have an A7 which I use mostly with old SLR lenses and if you want to use old lenses I think that an A7 series camera is the way to go as you get manual focus aids which make accurate focus possible (magnified view, peaking.) I'm not a fan of manual focus with modern DSLR's unless the subject is BIG in the frame and focus is easy to judge.

I've never found shutter leg to be an issue, ever.

Pro's...
It's a relatively compact and light package.
You can fit oodles of lenses via the appropriate adapter.
It's great for manual focus. I use Minolta Rokkor, Olympus Zuiko and Canon FD via Novoflex adapters.
Image quality is IMVHO very good and files can take a lot of abuse post capture.

Cons...
Battery life. I have two batteries and for me it's not really an issue.
Raw's. Sony used a lossy format but it's never been a real world issue for me.
Noisy shutter. This is not really a problem for me coming from Canon DSLR's, my 20D could have woken the dead. The A7 has an electronic first curtain which reduces the noise a little compared to the A7r. The A7s has a silent shutter mode.

Anyway, there's a A7II out now which you might like to look into, it has in body IS.

Good luck choosing and with the move :D Hope you get some good shots.

D700? You should be able to find a low mileage example for less than a 6x0. The only real con I can think of is the relatively low pixel count which does reduce the cropability of the images it produces. More than capable of A3+ prints with slight cropping.
Or, IF budget allows, a new D750.
