Yes
I'm moving into my rental house in a few weeks, and will need an internet connection for 6months. Who provide a good connection for not a lot of money? (around £20/month would be good). I download a max of 10gb/month, and so can't have any 1gb/month capped one's.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, so am probably looking at 512-1mb, and i have all the hardware, so just need the connection.

Any suggestions would be great :)
Thanks

I think one of your biggest problems is going to be the 6 month contract. Most suppliers these days are looking at 12 - 18 months minimum, so a short term contract may cost you more. The other problem is speed, if you are miles from the exchange you might just struggle to get 256kbs. I know at work we are about 3.5 miles from the exchange and cant get above the 256 threshold :(

When i say in the middle of nowhere, it's still a town, so i should be ok with 512-1mb really :)

For Address ******* on Exchange SHERBORNE

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your address indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 6Mbps up to 8Mbps.

-------------------

That's not so bad then :)

UKFSN (awful website, but are meant to be quite good), have ADSL Max (30gb peak limit) but £20/month, on a monthly contract. BUT there's a £50 activation fee :( But i think everywhere charges that now don't they?

So, what you mean is that you'll be in the middle of nowhere, next to a telephone exchange. Lucky bu**er

Try http://www.zen.co.uk

My current package is 8mb downstream, 11 POP3 mailboxes, 2gb of webspace for £24.99.

They do cheaper packages from £17.99 per month. The best part is, their minimum contract is one month. I've been with 'em for about three years now with no major outage of service that I can recall.

They also got my service up and running in under four days - nearly a week ahead of how long they estimated it would take.

[edit] Forgot to mention my package is limited to 20GB download per month, although you can buy extra for £1/GB if you ever run out.

The activation fee is pretty much charged by most ADSL providers, simply because they get charged it by BT. If you don't want to pay an activation fee, you're looking at a longer minimum contract or slightly higher monthly prices to cover it.

UKFSN gets very good reviews on ADSLGuide. They are an Entanet reseller, who are quite on the ball.
19.99 for 30gig peak , 300gig offpeak, static IP (I think), and 1 month contracts.

Although, the traffic limits do include upload too. But I suppose at 10 gig down that won't be a problem.

Yeah i assume that's the exchange... 500m away or so.

i use virgin broadband, no 12 month contract, just give them a couple of months notice to terminate, prices start from £15 a month for 3 gig, and go up to about £26.

BT/Yahoo (yes really ...:D) ... are currently doing a six month for £9.95 deal on (I think) a 12 month package offering pretty much what you are looking for. It reverts to £17.50 or so after first 6 months.

I am supposedly limited to downloads but they have never, ever queried my useage and the service is excellent ...imo of course ... even if it is BT ...

HTH ...:D

:p

ZEN is great and has a 1 month contract, might be a wee bit over what you wanted to pay (I'm on 8mb x 20gb per month at £25) I left F2S to go to ZEN, F2S had a 10gb package at £19.99 per month but were bought by (spits) Pipex.

Another vote for Zen, I just migrated over from Nildram only 2 weeks ago and can only praise their fantastic service..:1st:

And!!!! When you ring their customer service the phone was answered in less than 2 rings of the phone.. Try that with Nildram or Pipex..

Great thing is a 1 month contract..

Yeah I've heard Zen are pretty good. Others who do one month contracts are Eclipse and Mailboix.

Right, i need to sort this soon :)

UKFSN look good... ADSL Max 30gb is £20/month + £50 activation and 1month contract.

Zen are pretty good. I'm with AAisp who do monthly rolling contracts. I'm on the 3GB 400k package. Although they have caps, it should be noted that off-peak runs from 6pm to 8am, and all weekend. Suits me fine - I'm in the office at peak time anyway! Run by very knowledgeable peeps, and gives a host of advanced features should you need them.

Try www.newnet.co.uk up to an 8meg connection 15gig download per month for £18.95. Monthly contract. They do a good selection of packages, and they are reliable.
Unfortunally just about all ISP's include an activation fee.
Try also www.adslguide.org for all the available ISP's, their ratings and costs to set up a connection.
