Im hoping someone can put me out of my misery with downloading a plug in to allow me to use RAW in CS4, now that I have a new camera. Ive been onto the Adobe site and downloaded the plug in for CS4 and i think it was version 5.6. Is there anything else i should be doing apart from restarting the computer as CS4 will not allow me to open a raw file at all! ?? Please can someone help? thank you

If you have 64 bit windows this is what I do.
It can be a bit complicated so even though I've done many updates I do this one step at a time.

To install Camera Raw 5.6 manually on a 64-bit edition of Windows:

1. Close all Adobe applications.

2. Download Camera Raw 5.6 from www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4624.

3. Extract the Camera Raw.8bi file from the ZIP file you downloaded. (In this step, extract only the Camera Raw.8bi file that is at the top level of the ZIP file.
In Step 5, you will extract the Camera Raw.8bi file that is inside the Win64 folder.)

4. Move Camera Raw.8bi into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats.
If you are prompted to overwrite the existing plug-in file, then click Yes or Overwrite.

5. Extract the Camera Raw.8bi file from the Win64 folder that is inside the ZIP file you downloaded.
This Camera Raw.8bi file is the 64-bit Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop CS4.

6. Move the 64-bit Camera Raw.8bi file into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats.
If you are prompted to overwrite the existing plug-in file, then click Yes or Overwrite.

7. To install Camera Profiles, extract the CameraProfiles.exe file from the ZIP file that you downloaded.
Next, double-click on CameraProfiles.exe and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Just in case you dont have the 64 bit version I have just found the info for 32bit windows.

Manual installation on Windows®:

1. Exit Photoshop CS4 and Adobe Bridge.
2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Open My Computer.
4. Double-click Local Disk (C).
5. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)

Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS4\File Formats

6. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
7. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 5.
8. Launch Photoshop CS4 or Adobe Bridge

Or just click on 'help' then 'updates' and let Ps download and install updates, including acr, without having to anything else, way way easier than messing about copying and pasting files etc.
