After being in beta for some twelve months Adobe has today announced the availability of Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 'Final' at an introductory price of $199 (until April 30; after that $299). This new offloading, browsing, organizing and editing tool promises improved professional workflow for everyone including easy to use pick/reject features and tagging. In addition Lightroom leverages Adobe Camera Raw meaning it can read and display hundreds of Raw formats. Photoshop Lightroom should ship in mid-February.

to add; RSP owners will be emailed a download link to receive v1.0 free as promised by Adobe when they bought the rawshooter technology

I guess it will be at or around launch date - I'll be hassling Adobe on a daily basis after that:boxer:

I have LR pre-ordered and can't wait for it to arrive next week.
It's an awesome application !!

So will lightroom do some of the stuff that CS2 can do or is it simply a raw preperation tool like RSP?

Its basically a raw prep with a more user-friendly web publishing facility. Slow though, so hopefully they've given it steroids in live version (with pixmantec help)

Might have to have a look at the beta and see how good it is. Now that I'm starting to work with RAW properly anyway.

Its a great tool, but in terms of value for money I'd recommend Bibble for a similar price. If you use PS anyway, you only really want your Raw programme to do the basics and do them quickly. Bibble has great work flow and is lightening compared to PS / Lightroom / CPP etc. Tends to be my go-to tool for viewing and batching, with PS (enjoying CS3 by the way!) used for finer detail and touching.

I have switched to Mac since I bought Raw shooter, I wonder if they'll give me a Mac version?
They may well do but you'd still be better off digging some ££'s out from somewhere and getting aperture. Doesn't actually do as much as lightroom (unless you make use of the web galleries via .mac or the book making aspects (which are both really good but not core uses)) but it does what it does far better.

Which is actually a worry considering that adobe have 8 or so versions of PS under their belt and apple have, well nothing previos really.

Just a heads up to those, like me, waiting for the RSP gratis copy of Lightroom v1.0... A handy FAQ has appeared on Adobe Forums giving details on getting your copy... basically download the current 30day trial and on 23rd Feb they will email you with futher instructions on how to register your trial version and thus turn it into a full version.

cheers Dreeder - hopefully they'll follow this one through!

I've had a play with it and its far quicker than Aperture with 7,000 images. The interface is cleaner than the beta too. I think I might be using this a lot. I currently use iView to store and rate all my work but this does things iView does + Raw editing.

I am liking this finished version too :) much faster than the beta and has soooo much to play with :D

Used it today still doesn't pull all the detail out of the Raw files like our existing Raw Converter,
So we will be sticking with our existing Raw Converter and CS2/3 for manipulation after conversion.

Fingers Crossed we will be having a workshop on Adobe Lightroom.

So watch this space. I will post a thread once we have finalised a date on this.

Regards

Stuart
