Hi folks,

I'm looking at buying Adobe After Effects and wondered if I had to rent it from the Adobe page, isn't there anywhere else I can shop around and just buy the thing?

You'll need a Creative Cloud account to purchase After Effects, from there you can pay and use it month by month or annually. A few years ago Adobe made to move from selling physical products to only selling digital subscription based products - if you're someone who will continuously upgrade from year to year when new revisions become available, this new method of purchasing will save you money. However, if you're someone who just wants one piece of Adobe software and doesn't intend to upgrade year after year, if can be a little off putting.
 
AFAIK software available through the CC account is also available stand alone - lightroom can be bought for a single, fixed price as stand alone software.
 
Yes I don't, at the moment that is, expect to upgrade it for a good while so I am a little put off. £205 a year year for After Effects I'm not sure I'd get that much use out of it per year too.
