I have some ideas of some pictures I would like to play around with, add people and objects etc, and was wondering how people people add realistic shows, not only to surrounding areas, but to body parts that may be shielded from the light source in the picture that stuff is getting added to.

Is dodging and burning the way forward, or just painting on with a low opacity? I understand about drop shadows, but not always the best for different scenarios.

Cheers, Tim

You can add shadows in lots of ways, one popular way is to add a new layer set to multiply or darken blend mode, paint on with black and lower opacity till your happy.
