adding film photos to the forum

some people get their processor to scan frames and put them on cd, and some scan their own..

It'll most likely be a mix. You get more control when you scan yourself, but it does take a lot of time!

I can vouch for that last bit.

Still, spotting is easier than with enlargements.

I can vouch for both parts of your comment as well Rob :)

and FWIW, I started out this time around on film by taking the shots and getting the lb to scan 'em. After 3 rolls I decided it wasn't going to be cost effective, and the quality/image resolution wasn't there, so I bought my own scanner.

Colour - I get my lab to scan. The scans ain't great but they are good enough.
B&W - I make an enlargement and scan that. It's dusty as hell but it doesn't really bother me.

I scan my own but the early stff was lab scanned. It was just too darned expensive to carry on that caper, plus now I can adjust the contrast to how it should be at the scan stage so no messing up the resulting JPG. Removing dust takes an age though. My last roll of 36 took 4 hours to scan in and upload, and even now there are 4 shots I still haven't spotted.

Negatives / Slides every time (if I've got them - I've also been working my way through the "big box of parent's photographs in the bottom of the wardrobe" where it's just the photo)

Negatives, that way I don't have a few boxes of 6x4s with the wrong contrast floating around!
