Hi All,

Wonder if you can help me out with something that should be really simple, yet I'm having so much hassle with this. I'm wanting to add in cinematic black bars above and below to my cropped photo. Only way I can do this is to edit in PS and change canvas size. And I still manage to b****r that up!

Is there a preset, or some action I can do in LR to save my own preset that will do this quickly and easily, please?

Cheers in advance for any help.

Joe

I use a Lightroom plugin called Mogrify which adds a number of additional Export options, including borders, that you can use for Presets. Then it's a matter of working out the aspect ratios you want to convert from and too.

This would be really simple to do in the print module and print to jpg.

After a bit of faff I think the easiest method I found was crop on LR, export to PS and change the canvas size (relative) to add the extra black top and bottom border. Seemed fastest also. Steven, I liked your method of applying gradients in LR, but for the life of me I couldn't get the solid black look.

But thanks all for replying. It's been a useful foray into PS and also Affinity to nose around.

Sounds slow and faffy to me :D

Honestly, with Mogrify it's crop to a tv/cinematic aspect ratio (16:9 or 2.55:1) and then pick your preloaded Export preset. Job done.

The only complicated bit is the one-off maths to determine the thickness of the bars. Mogrify is donationware, so the price of a coffee gets you the full version - and the limited version will still give you full functionality with a limit on the number of images you can export as a single batch.
