Went for a walk along the canal with the wife early this morning. 14 km in total and just shy of 1,100 calories so that's me done for the day.

Took the OM5.2 and the OM 8-25 F4 Pro with me. Trying to think outside the box and find lines and angles in the everyday things and also playing with perspective / composition.

Here are four from this morning (I am currently in a bit of a B&W phase, plus the lighting was pants).

Lines and angles 1

I quite like this (wife's favourite) as ot has some nice leading lines and some angles.

Lines and angles 2

Went for a different perspective on this one with the camera tilted slightly to line up the screen with the step on the bottom of the frame. just adds a twist to the image in my opinion.

Lines and angle 3

Again I like this as it was taken from the bridge on the canal. I just couldn't squeeze in the top of the building which is a bit of a let down in my eyes. I could probably have cut off some of the bottom of the frame to increase space at the top. Hey ho, we live and learn. I will go back here and retake this image.

Lines and angles 4

Another of the wife's favourites.

I do like the first image :)

Ok last couple from the same walk again (feet are killing me now).

Lines and angles 5

Better composition of the 3rd image above. I like this as it shows lots of different lines and angles.

Lines and angles 6

Bit of editing on this one to remove the handrail attached to the wall. It is the handrail that runs down the stairs on the bottom right shot against the wall in the picture above.

I quite enjoyed this little exercise as this is as far removed from my little macro genre as could be. That is one reason I purchased the OM5.2 and this 8-25 F4 Pro lens, to try new things out. Not sure what genre these would fall into...but fun all the same.

Happy to have a discussion / comments / feedback as this is a new style of photography to me.

I think you made the best choice, from a strong set. That image of the steps and handrail grabbed me when I first saw it. Strong composition (but breaking most of the rules!).

Thanks @Boots

When you say breaking most of the rules, what do you mean? Do you mean the typical rules of composition like rule of thirds and things?

Some very good shots in there and long may your B&W phase last :)
I think my fav is actually #3, because it has a discordant look to it, much more than #5.
But I guess #6 is the tecnically stronger image.

Thanks @Boots

Yes, exactly. You don't seem to have anything on the thirds (and all the other "rules"). You do have leading lines, but they are quite disconnected from the corners. But despite these picky things (or perhaps because of them) - I like it.

There is a black line along the top, which personally I would remove.

A very good set of pictures there, and quite difficult to select a favorite, the safest thing to do is to pick the wife's favorite!

A strong shot, I think you could get the whole year out of scene three!

Shot 6 is definitely my favourite - I like the way your eyes are lead around the frame on different routes depending where you start looking first.

Good set and another vote for #6, not sure about second as it reminds me of the days when I’d had one or two too many

Yep - all good takes :)

Great shots Adam, I like the accompanying story. I think that you chose the right one. Clean and simple, it has a good feel to it...

A good sent from what looks like an enjoyable walk. I prefer the one you've chosen as I like the tightness of composition and the light works well.

Liked your entry earlier this week, before I joined the challenge, my favourite image so far and perfect for the theme.

Took the opportunity to go for a walk with the camera down the local canal given the snow and my office being closed.

Looking for rust and decay / rust / decay. Images taken on OM5.2 and OM 8-25 F4 Pro

First image is a rusting lock on an old wooden gate I spotted. Slightly tweaked the image to a 3:2 and altered the colours a little to make the areas I wanted to stand out pop a little.

Second image which I like shows the decaying element nicely - although not so much rust but I like the fact that there was one red berry when everything else is dead and decaying.

Third image is another lock on a gate but more of a close up shot filling the frame.

Forth image is a rusty chain on a rusty metal gate - nothing much to add here - meets the theme but does nothing for me personally.

I think the rusty chain works better for the theme.
I don't like the rusty chain one, it's my least favourite of the lot. Just shows how individual photography is.

They all meet the theme one way or another but that one is the most boring in my eyes. Just a rusty chain on a gate.

I find nothing about it interesting. It's just all dull and similar colours.

Third one for me Adam. I like the close-up, it shows the rust nicely on the lock.
Yes it was a toss up between the two for me also.

Wife likes the berry one.

I had planned to go out and take some more but it's cold and icy and I couldn't be bothered lol

You've got a good eye for it all, looks like you had fun looking for the right one.

I quite like the berry one too but the third really hits the theme for me. All good pictures (y)

Cheers Simon

It's all a bit of fun at the end of the day.

I think I would go with #3 too. I prefer the close up.
I'll try and keep up with the multiple images for each weeks theme. It's interesting to see what people like.

To be honest, if I could have found a berry with some rust behind it or around it I'd probably have chosen that one, just wasn't to be.

The other two (locks) I liked both.

The fourth image I just took and don't like it at all. It's boring and dull.

Nice shots, you could crowbar the decaying paint into the them, I agree with you on the second shot, a nice bit of rusty barbed wire would have been a winner.

Great images Adam, I think that you chose the right one and your processing is excellent.

Well could be an interesting / boring week - depending on how you look at it lol.

Couple to get me started and also tick the box for framing.

Again taken on the OM5.2 and 8-25 F4 Pro.

These are from a local set of small offices (they are small) in my creatives in my local area (Solihull Core Creatives).

Image 1

Simply a picture of the door to the little office, but used the window within it, to frame the image of the door on the opposite side of the corridor.

Image 2

Similar set up to the first although the door opposite is a different colour (which I think helps with the depth of the image) and I have just had at it in LR and had some fun editing it so that it is not just a boring door.

Image 3

As above just a different approach
