My D5100 finally arrived a few days ago and i have had so much fun with it. In the first 20 minutes of having the camera i had to make a homemade pop-up flash diffuser from a film container.

I am now finding that when looking through the view finder my nose touches the lcd screen and its slightly too much hassle sometimes to keep flipping the lcd screen round after every other shot. Is there a standard extension i can put on in place of the rubber piece that is already there that stops my nose from pressing against the screen. I have already ordered screen protectors and various other accessories.

what other essentials would i need with the camera? bear in mind i am a student still so i cant spend too much money on stuff. i have also ordered a remote shutter control. but are there any other essentials i may need (im gong to look for a compact bag aswell which i only need for the camera and he 1 lens i have, i dont see myself buying another lens for atleast a year or 2)

Spare battery and memory cards would be first on my list.

2 x 8gb cards will probably suffice for now. But you'll be surprised how quickly you can fill them up, especially with certain types of photography, e.g. sport, etc.

I'd also recommend thinking about a battery grip. Not only does it give you extended battery, but I was amazed at how useful it was when I put one on my d90, haven't taken it off since!

One last piece of advice. When it comes to buying, don't overlook the classified section on TP (once you have access). Members really look after their gear and you can sometimes get a bargain, or at least pay current selling rate, knowing that the gear is well looked after.
