Anyone got first hand knowledge or links of how to access the mirror of an ftn photomlic prism ?

I have one with what appoears to be mold growth on the mirror which needs to be cleaned up.

I think that I have some instructions on my PC. Went through a phase of collecting Nikon repair manuals & stuff & I think that I have some instructions for taking it apart & cleaning the resistor. Sadly I am not going to get near my PC until late tomorrow night.

I have had mine apart. The screws to take the top cover off are under the leatherette. There are 4 of them IIRC. By now expect the leatherette to be very brittle so you will need care peeling it off.

Are you sure it is mould & isn't the mirror de-silvering? This is what happened to mine, right along the upper line of the prism. The meter was also not working on mine so in the end I wound up buying an eye level finder which cost as much again as I had paid for the body with the FTN finder. Lovely camera to use though.

I will check the thread again tomorrow night & if you haven't had anything, I will see what I can find.

I got back to PC a bit earlier than expected. I have uploaded what I have to the file hosting links below:

.pdf about adjusting & cleaning the meter to here http://www.filedropper.com/photomicftn It doesn't show taking the prism out, but gets pretty close to it with the disassembly.

Here is a drawing of the finder internals http://www.filedropper.com/ftn-2

.pdf of Nikon's Repair Manual for the F to here http://www.filedropper.com/f_2 The last one is 20MB in size & only deals with the eye level finder but it may be of interest?

If you can't download any of them send me a message with an email address & I will try sending them.

Good luck :)

Thank you for the links.....i'll read up on them as soon as i get chance.
I was hoping to take a closer look to see if it is mold or not but today has just not seen that happen......thé weekend is here so hopefully tomorrow with good light and spectacles i'll get an opportunity.

ooooh post some pics
