Ok, I have the DSLR area covered (Pentax K10D and a variety of lenses) and throughly enjoy taking photographs with it...however...if I'm away for a nice weekend with my other half I do not want to carry my SLR around with me, I want a point & shoot I can keep in my pocket.
If I'm going to get a P&S then I want the best around as I would still want to put a bit of time and effort into my composition etc.
I already have a Canon Ixus (not sure of the model number but I bought it a couple of years ago) and it's "OK" but nothing special.
A Lot can change in two years so what's the current cream of the crop for compacts at the moment?
In order of importance....image quality...range of settings....size/weight....battery performance.....price.

Thanks,
Mark Morb

Canon G9 or the new G10 seem to get very good reviews as long as you don't use anything higher then 400 iso.

They say the Canon G10 is pretty darn good. No personal experience though

Thanks for the suggestions guys....based on that I have just read a review over at DPReview of the G10 and they seem a bit underwhelmed by it. In a studio situation they claim it's superb but in real life usage they say it's higher ISO settings are poor (they also say it is very over priced).
They did seem to like the Panasonic LX3 and Nikon P6000 so I'm off to see what else has been written about them.
Thanks again.

Went with the LX3, after spending 3 hours reading about 20 reviews of the G9/G10 Vs the LX3.
The size of the G10/G9 did put me off but also people seem to think that the LX3 works better in a wider variety of situations (although apparently the G10 can get stunning results in perfect conditions).
Anyway I've ordered it from Amazon....
I'll report back when it arrives.
Thanks,
Mark Morb
