Hi folks, Does anybody know if a DSLR is allowed to be taken on planes, hand luggage preferred. I've never taken mine abroad before.

Not a problem to take in the cabin - I NEVER put mine in checked baggage

Yeah take it in hand luggage.

The flights I've been on lately have been very strict about only 1 piece of hand luggage, including your camera bag, even if it's a small one. I got a larger camera bag so I could fit my camera gear, tablet, jersey for the flight etc.

I always take mine and also always in hand luggage.

I haven't come across the one bag 'thing' yet when travelling abroad (only within the UK) but you could certainly get one large enough to carry the camera, accessories and bits and pieces and still be within limits - although limits change between airlines and some are more rigorous in policing that than others.

Just check out the companies regs for hand luggage size, I have a little roll along bag/case that just fits in the overhead storage lockers, I put my lenses in cases and camera in a bag and my light coat, just make sure its under your 5 Kilo limit or what ever it is. tripod/chargers in hold luggage

I'm flying on Saturday - Aer Arann who are not generous with their cabin baggage allowances and I'm taking a small case which will fit in the lockers AND a camera bag [ Tamrac messenger bag (6 I think) with my K-x , a flash , my iPad etc etc . the front pocket will the stuff like passport and normal handbag essentials ] To add to that I'll have a walking stick as well !
