My annual renewal came up for Lightroom the other day and I just felt I needed a change, partly cost related, but also I have never tried anything else! SO i bough DX photolab 9 and the film kit on a black friday offer, certainly more expensive initially and going to have a bit of a learning curve, but the 2 things that did it for me was 1) I took a few photos (.orf RAW files) and processed them as closely as possible in both packages (using the DXO trial), the initial processing before I even started by DXO I felt was much better, and I was pleased with the results I could achieve quickly. 2) I found DXO quicker to view/load/edit images due to the way they simply access existing file structure, rather than creating libraries.

There are some bits I haven't quite figured out on DXO, but I am quite happy to have got rid of a subscription from my monthly outgoings, and more importantly like the results.

Any tutorials, super tips etc appreciated to build my skill level :)

Can you transfer all your current lightroom catalogue with edits into DXO? Is it easy to do?

Er, I don’t know the answer to that, my initial thought is probably not unless they’re saved as jpegs…

I started using DXO a couple of years ago and I just upgraded from 7 to 9 and also got the film pack on black Friday deal.

I've been very impressed with PhotoLab. The lens profiles that it auto downloads as very good, the noise reduction is excellent. I like how quick it is to edit images and I like the .dop sidecar files. I never liked the idea of importing in to a database like light room.

It also has the colour control points that I used to love with Nikon Capture NX 2. And the new version has AI masking which works quite well and quickly for easy local adjustments.
