Hi guys,

Need some help here. Does anyone knows if there's any abandoned building in London area?

If yes, it needs to be accessible. Give me some indication please?

Hmmm. You're asking people to aid and abet you in an act of trespass, and you wonder why you haven't had any replies?

Without wishing to aid abet trespass (;)), i believe there is an urban exploration forum that may help called 28days later dot com or something similar

If you're feeling lucky, google uk urban exploration

There must be literally hundreds. To find them search flickr etc, "Abandoned London", "Urbex London" etc...

If not, keep your eyes peeled :)

Gary.

Is it possible to aid and abet a civil offence in an illegal manner?

We're not going down that road again ;)

I believe the OP is still a student? As such I'm sure that he wouldn't be doing anything that might bring embarassment or disrepute upon him, the Company he's on placement with or the college. I'm sure he fully intends to identify the owners of whatever building(s) he finds and obtain permission to enter. He just hasn't said so yet.

:D............I`m sure your right Dod.

How do you know that he's going to trespass? For all you know he might be asking out of curiosity. Or he will be asking the owner's permission once he has found a suitable building. I wouldn't go about making assumptions about peoples' intentions - it's rude and arrogant.

OP: I would recommend 28dayslater, but they seem to have a funny sign-up policy.

Good luck with the search.

OH NOES!!!! Not... trespass?! It's not even criminal. Damn, you can't even go to court over it. And 'aiding and abetting'?? Please!

Seriously, some people need to get over this. I mean, it must be great to be so self-righteous, and such a law abider, but don't you ever yearn to do something different? To step out into the unknown a bit?

It has to be said: the photographer on TP condemning trespass as some big wrong is no better than the vigilante security guard who says taking pictures in a shopping centre is illegal.

whatever the point of view, as a website we cannot condone acts that are deemed to be illegal, and trespass is one of them.

what does OP stand for?

But it's not illegal.

See, you're proving my point. You're just like the vigilante policemen. You've got it all wrong but you're sticking to your guns because you're so self-assured. Maybe we should have some poxy 'Early Day Motion' about guys like you?

Let it drop. This thread is NOT going to become a discussion about the laws (or otherwise) of trespass.

Trespass laws are complicated, perhaps an internet forum is not the ideal place to go into it...............:)

IMO

Trespass IS illegal. It's a civil offense, instead of criminal, but it is illegal.
And as a forum we prefer not to be seen to promote illegal activity.

There's an old abandoned Bath House near Docklands which looks like a good photo op. Was thinking of checking it out myself. I passed it yesterday on my way to the Red Bull Air Race (sorry I don't have a more exact location but I think it may have been near All Saints DLR station).

It's not judged as illegal by the Press Complaints Commission though. I know this because I used that fact to help someone (successfully) claim for photo fees. The newspaper tried to defend their original decision not to pay for the photos because they were 'taken illegally'.

But you've made your point - you don't want this discussed further. Whilst I understand that you don't want to actively encourage people to trespass, I think it's a little OTT to disallow discussion of it. I mean, it's relevant to photography, isn't it?

I would say from my experience that there are thousands, many in central areas.

Though some of the inhabited ones are in a worse state of decay.

if i was a vigilante policeman you would be looking a screen that says something along the lines of:

Your Banned, The Reason For your Ban: Arguing the Toss with Forum Owners

however im not. Any more comments about me though and you will find yourself looking at that screen.

the rules that we set are made with one eye on what we are allowed to do on a server, therefore we have to be careful what content is here. If the hosts deem it to be illegal, we lose our server, so we have to be careful.

Discussion of Urbex and the like is fine, but in the way that was outlined above by Dod and Marcel.

Thanks for the info people! That's why I mentioned it needs to be accessible.Don't worry about trespassing, I'll get the permission!

8utters! Let me know once you got in. Hehe...

Not sure if it's in London but if the level of recent moderator action continues you may be able to add TP Towers to the list ;)

I'm not out to cause offence or upset the mods. They have a job to do and ultimately the site control falls to them. However I have witnessed recent moderator action which was harsh, hypocritical, and quite frankly rude. There seems to have been a rise in moderator action which i'm not convinced was needed.

TP was a happy nice forum to belong to when I signed up a few months ago. On the whole I've spent many happy hours here and hope to continue to do so. I would like to suggest the mods talk to the posters involved before they act in some cases, although i accept there will be times when they legally have to act immediately. To do so would help maintain good relations with the poster/s and foster an understanding of their actions. I know from being a moderator myself (another site, a long time ago) it's not an easy job.

With regard to this thread I fail to understand the concerns raised about identifying derelict sites. There is surely nothing wrong in compiling a list of such locations. It doesn't condone or assume anything illegal. There are many such sites which can be viewed/photographed legally from a public place. If we allow postings and discussion of photo's of such places, where it is clear there has been an act of trespass then why not a discussion of other places?

Can we please see common sense restored to its former level guys and girls? :)

Actually the site control ultimately falls to the Admin (Myself, matty and df) ;)
If you have any problems with moderator action, you're free to air your concerns to us privately and in confidence, although I don't think I've seen any bad action. We don't normally take moderation lightly.

Sometimes however, there are things that do go on behind the scenes with members, where it may seem that any public action is 'new', whereas often its as a result of other things happening too.
We can also edit secretly, and often do converse with members, politely letting them know.

However, with our growth, we have had a few rude and impolite members signing up, some of whom seem 'hell bent' on disrupting the friendly atmosphere we have here (Usually under the guise of 'just being honest, and telling it like it is'). That, we won't tolerate, and sometimes we do respond rather curtly, but always with good reason.

As for this topic....common sense? Yep...that's why it's still here ;)

I appreciate you responding Marcel. And a well measured reply too. :)

im sorry if you thought i was a little harsh yesterday in response to a post, i do try and respond calmly but sometimes i find being insulted by a member for no good reason to be a little annoying! However today i am calm and thoughtful.

Matty, i agree it can be annoying being provoked by someone, especially for no good reason. The problem with moderating is it ought to balanced and calm at all times. I try to recall my gran's favourite saying at times like those, that was "if in doubt do now't".

I, as i'm sure everyone reading this thread will, appreciate your apology. It takes a big man to recognise a failure and apologise for it publicly. Thank you. :)
