Yes
ok so was out playing in the garden with the camera. and when i look through the view finder there is a little mark on the left hand side.
it does not come up on any of the photos or anything on the lens.
any idea where it could be. as i have cleaned the view finder etc and its still there.

Set your camera into AV (Aperture Priority), set it to f/22 and take a photo of something plane. A blue sky normally works well, just fire off a shot, it doesn't have to be in focus. Fire a shot off, and check the photo, and if theres any dust on the sensor it'll show up on the photo with any luck.

I've got quite a few little specs looking through the viewfinder that don't show up on images. I think I've either picked up some dust on the mirror or focus screen. I've used a blower and it's not made any difference. It doesn't affect the camera performance in any way, but it's a bit of an irritation at times when I notice it.

It will be dust either on the mirror or on the AF point screen. A quick hurrican blow should sort it out :)...

sounds like dust on the mirror to me to but i resently went into 'morris photo' my local camera shop and got onto the subject of dust on the lens and mirror and the chap in there told me to be carefull if i ever have to clean dust off the mirror, as its not like a normal mirror (glass with the reflective backing) the reflective material is on the top layer of the camera mirror and if rubbed to hard or to may times will eventually rub the refletive material away this is only what ive been told though so im not sure if its true

hope this helps :)

Is correct. The same thing was happening recently in my camera. A few blasts with the rocket blower and it was gone.

Dust can get up into the space above the focusing screen - especially if the inside of the mirror box gets hurricane blown. The dust that gets there is often well focussed since it tends to be where that viewfinder optics are focussed on. Be careful trying to clean the screen - they're often soft. As Denz pointed out above, mirrors should be treated with a lot of care as well - they're first surface mirrors, so when you give them a rub, you're actually rubbing on the soft metal surface and you don't want to damage that (or leave fine scratches on it) since that'll affect the AF.

In general, live with the dust - if you can't, consult a professional repairer.
