I cant figure out what gm poeple like photobox use..I want to do my own matte/silk? A3 prints and dont want to use gloss.. the 7x5 i have used in the past is 260 g/m but thinking thats thicker than the A3 ones i get from photobox ...

i want genuine canon paper to go wiht canon camera, canon, printer and canon ink... just seems the best way to go as its gotta be compatible?

any suggestion on printer paper for a3 ?

I would have thought that Photobox woudl be using photographic paper, and that would be more than likely Fuji Crystal Archive. Off the top of my head I don't know what teh gsm of that is.

I think the basic photobox paper is 200gsm

I use canons own photo glossy II paper with a mp640 for 6x4s and its more than acceptable going by what the family think of the snaps I print off. as you don't want gloss you'd have to go for canon's Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss

TBH you don't have to use canon's own paper - its probably made by one of the major 3rd party manufacturers anyway.

I use various papers with my R2400 (using a fotospeed CIS + my own profiles)

Gold Fibre Silk from Ilford, 315gsm, fantastic colour & b&w. Profiles and settings for your printer available free from the Ilford site.

Available in A2, A3 A4

I'm producing more than decent quality prints using a Pixma 9000 on Staples A3 Photo Premium Matt paper. 270gsm 20 sheets per @ £14.99 I think.

You might need to tweek the profile a touch, but otherwise it's great.

By the way, the 'photographic paper' I was talking about is not inkjet paper, it is paper for wet process labs.

I've found that when you are printing A3 and A3+ you really need paper around 310 gsm to give the print rigidity. 250/275 gsm is just to flimsy for my tastes.

I use either Canson Baryta Photographique, or Ilford Gold Fiber Silk ( Which I suspect is the same product, different packaging !!)

If you want to go all Canon then try their Pro Platinum product. Its 300gsm and available in A3 and A3+

I checked and you can get it from WEX. Here's a link

Doesn't that rather depend on what you want it for and how you're going to mount it?

not when its behind glass or in an album.

the canson and the canon pro products are stupidly expensive and not any better than the cheaper papers of the same ilk.

what canon printer do you have? any of the fibre based papers are not totally recomended for dye inks.

Yes it does, but as I said I prefer a thicker paper simply for handling at the larger sizes. I find the thicker paper makes fixing to a mat prior to framing easier as it's a lot more rigid when it's a larger size

Correct thats what it is and I know I cant use that.. but it was the thickness (g/m) I was loking for so I can get as near as I can :)

Yes I ahve always used the same for 7x5 and a4 and they are 260 g/m which is pretty good

I am thinking the A3s I get are thinner and your 200 might be a good guess or are they not thinner.. just bigger and seem thinner?

I dont like gloss for a3 and told gloss not the best for large prints framed..

ooer looks bob on that.. thanks :)

pixma ix5000 here and i ahve tried profiles before and messed up so gave up.. I have printed some pice myself and there ok ..just after under expose before printing for some reason :)

I use a canon ix5000 and i really dont know enopugh about papers and inks to experiment.. i want to offer a good print... i use genuine canon inks and never refill..

if theres proven alternatives then great but i aint going to mess about when it comes to selling prints to customers.. if anyone else knows for sure then am willing to try different :) right now the paper POAH pointed me to looks good..

thanks for the help everyone.. as always much appreciated:)

I think Fuji Crystal Archive is about 250gsm off the top of my head

The 2nd link is the same paper as 7dayshop but cheaper.

I have used the Canon A£ gloss paper, it's the one with the skier on the front, but can't find it now.

I've also had a test print fron Calumet own brand and it was very good but cannot recall the paper. Might be worth a look if there is a store near you.

I just get DSCL to print now

I was printing on Canon Photo paper plus semi gloss for some time. I switched to Ilford Gallerie Smooth pearl and Ive never looked back.

I use Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss 290gsm and Innova Smooth Cotton High White 300gsm for both colour and b+w

I really like the Canon Pro Platinum a3+ has a really nice feel to it.

What did you end up selecting?

None... got snowed under wiht other stuff and lack of A3 sales put it on back burner.. was selling a few and thought to get a better option.. but busy and no A3 sales made it go back of que... oops :)
