Ok, a bit 'tongue in cheek' really. :)
I had a cataract removed from my right eye on Wednesday and it has made a real difference to my clarity of vision.
However, there is an unexpected side affect to the procedure, in that my 'new' eye sees a crisp, clear, cool image, whereas my untreated eye sees a muted warm image ... in future should I process using both eyes or select the eye based on the conditions as photographed?

Anyone else had a cataract removed and noticed similar changes?
Care to offer your subsequent photographic experience?

I'd wait until you've had part 2 done - or ask a friend/family member which looks better.

Not got noticeable cataracts but they're on their way apparently. MiL had hers done and her vision corrected about 15 years ago - went from -10+ dioptre to no specs, saving her the cost of the op in about 5 years (the light Zeiss lenses are not cheap!)

Different eyes seeing slightly different colours or lightness/darkness isn't uncommon for untreated eyes. Your problem is working out which one is "right".
You could try making a few pics at each eye "corrected" colour and getting mates/wife/whoever to tell you which version works best Personally I'd probably just use both eyes and check with a mate, just to be sure it's not odd.

I've a feeling that I'll get some help here too! :D

Firstly, this is perfectly normal and your Brain will be confused for a while. probably best to wait until the other eye is completed then your brain will sort it out in a few weeks. Meanwhile ask advice from others about specific pics. Also I normally use Auto White Balance and rarely need to make any changes in WB. So do not alter the WB unless you are sure.

@gramps are you definitely down to have your other eye done?

My old man had one done but wasn't supposed to get his other one done "until it needs it" (the done eye was replaced with a +0.5 and the not done was a +3.5 prescription leading to all sorts of "mirth and hilarity" - basically loss of binocular vision meant he had a couple of falls, neither serious but more by luck than anything else)

After he fell on the way in to his post op visit that all changed. Didn't realise he was such a good actor.

No plans for my 2nd eye yet, it's still good ... the improvement in my sight since the one has been done though is amazing.
I still have the colour mismatch but I can live with that if necessary :)

Maybe wear an eye patch. Look through your best eye.
Apologies for not giving an intelligent answer but I don't have one

Stick a photo up Roger that you think is right and is taken in 'normal' light - i.e. not dawn or dusk. Something like an egret in cloudy light would be ideal and I'll check it in LAB to see if its neutral or not

Unfortunately not out for a while Mike, high risk category :(

Edit an old shot with each eye?

If you're concerned (is that the right word?) just use an old shot, doesn't even have to be a good one - in fact I can send you a crappy RAW to use!

In the two weeks since I started the thread it has become less noticeable on a day to day basis, if I close each eye I can clearly see the difference but either it's got a lot better or my brain is ignoring the difference. If you would care to PM a contact I will send over a processed jpeg. :)
