Im planning to go away for a week from May 17th to try and get some half decent landscapes. My first reaction was to go the lakes, but I don't mind travellng anywhere on the mainland.

Im very open to suggestions as to where to go. So where would you go? :)

I can highly recommend Northumberland also. Have you thought about splitting your time between places, you could do part of the week in The Lakes and part in the Yorkshire Dales, both beautiful parts of the country and not too far apart.

Yorkshire Dales or lake district would be my first suggestions. Don't discount the North Norfolk coast though.

Thank you all for the suggestions, trouble to many great places to go not enough time :-)

I will have to do a lot more research about places to go in the mentioned areas. Thanks again

Very true about too many great places. Just to add a few more - just about anywhere in NW Scotland and the north Norfolk coast.

How about doing a north-to-south (or south-to-north) travel or is that a bit much? You can get city landscapes as well as country and mountain. Get the lot :)

Isle of Skye, Lake District, Cornwall, Snowdonia, Dales, Glencoe etc.

Thanks Jake, Got a week down by St Ives with the missus in the summer, shes pretty good about waiting for me.

I have a real softspot for Glencoe and spend as much time as possible up there, there are loads of locations, and it ranks as one of the most stunning locations in the UK IMO. You could happily spend a week around the area, but are only up the road from Skye and all that it holds.

Got a cottage by the Balck Cullins in the first week of September (again wiith the long suffering wife) I am as you may imagine looking forward to it. Had thought and still thinking about Glencoe.
spent a couple of days there a long while ago, but don't know it very well. The main advantage for me with the lakes is I do know that area a bit better, is May and ok month to got to Glencoe area?

Never thought about that Carl, travelling not a problem. Will see about planning a few stops on the way to whether I decide to go.

Thanks all

The only thing about Glencoe and the favourite Highland locations is they probably looks better in a more atmospheric or wintry light than the harsh glare of May (if it's not raining!)
Late May would be a good time for flowery meadows and the Pennine Dales are an obvious choice.

I live in Whitley Bay and Love Northumberland there's so many places around here but people think it's best to head for the coast yes it's beautiful but there's more to northumberland than the coast saying that my heart is in the lakes seriously can't get enough of the place

So if it was me I'd do half and half and you won't miss out

Isle of Skye, Lake District, Cornwall, Snowdonia, Dales, Glencoe etc.

Since we've got him traveling so much let's not forget a little further south too; South Wales - the Brecon Beacons, Waterfall Country, Glamorgan Heritage Coast etc.

For some reason Wales often doesn't figure that highly which I just don't understand.. better variety than the Lakes for sure as it also has some stunning coastline which the Lakes doesn't. Seriously think about Snowdonia.. you have Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula all within easy reach too so some great variation. For me the only place in the UK to beat it for variation is Western Scotland, these would be my top 2 on the shortlist... if coastal isn't a priority then the Lake District would be up there, as would the Yorkshire Dales

Snowdonia is high on my list, thinking of spending a couple of days up there later this year.

Many thanks guys for all the suggestions, South Wales is planned for a couple of long weekends later in the year. All the rest have been added to the must do list, trouble with that it just seems to get longer.
Think I'm going to spend the next week or so drawing up a few plans and then decide. Just hoping the mini heatwave the papers are forecasting for middle of May doesn't happen.
