A very emotional photo story.

We think cancer has once again hit our family. Waiting on test results. This set brought tears to my eyes.

Saw this the other day - having recently lost a close friend (not cancer btw) it really hit me.

A very moving set - and sometimes it's just what we need to remind us what photography is really about and that all this raw vs JPEG, Canon vs Nikon, film vs digital, this vs that is just so much noise.........

This is the raw power of photography at it's very best to tell a story and reveal a truth that connects with us immediately.

Thankd for the link...extremely moving

Couldn't agree more Steve, it's so easy to forget just how much power images can have.

I can't think of many things that would be as difficult for a photographer to capture as this, truly incredible.

What a brave and traumatic experience for such a young person to endure.

The terrible toll it took on her body, before finally taking her young life.

Its a wonder her boyfriend could see though the viewfinder, past the tears.

Cancer is such a terrible disease (there are apparently over 200 types), and one that hit's most families at some time in their lives.

I lost my father to it, and I myself was treated for Prostate Cancer, last year. Hopefully, having been caught very early, the treatment will have done the job.

One day, the scientists will 'crack' this awful disease, but until then all we can do is support the charities that fund the research.

God bless, and rest in peace young lady, the Cancer can't hurt you anymore now.

Dave

I have lost my Mother, Brother and Two sister through Cancer. I Have just been given the all clear after 18 months of treatment for Bowel cancer.

All I can say is that anyone who contracts this dreadful disease needs a good strong partner as well as good medical treatment. I had that.

That young lady certainly had that.

I give him a lot of credit, I know I couldn't have done it

Like many who have posted on this thread, we too have been hit hard by this disease - 6 out of 13 of my family have had it, most in the last 10 years.
Those pictures show it as it is, and as DaveS2 says, we all need to support the research into finding some way to stop it. It affects so many more than just those who get it, and watching families being ripped apart, or even worse, being in one that is struggling is no fun.

Thank you for posting this emotional and honest photoessay. Sometimes, our lives seem to get too much and we moan and groan about all manner of trivialities. This has put all sorts of things into a better perspective for me. Rest in peace Jennifer... X

It was this set that inspired one of my own when my mum was diagnosed. Ours, however, had a happy ending.

Beautiful yet tragic.

Very moving, and a fantastic example of how pictures can evoke such emotion when done well.

Thanks for posting.

Brought home to me yet again how lucky I am to be a survivor.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing that!

Luckily, I've never had to go through someone I know having cancer but I can imagine how difficult it would have been for him to document such a sad story. If it was me, I don't think I'd be able to look back at it either, or at least not the later images...

I'd love to see yours, where can I find it? Happy endings are always the best, especially when it seems so unlikely like it often does with cancer!

Here's mine, Josh - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/an-unfinished-set-my-mothers-journey.505331/

It's not as well thought out or as well photographed as the one in the first post but, like I said in the thread, it's ours :)

Oh wow, even 'incomplete' it's still very powerful!

I wouldn't have been able to bring myself to shoot the most difficult times either, and that's from only imagining what it's like to go through! Let's hope it stays like that, and that your mum remains well :)

What a great, moving and emotional set of images. This is great photography and a really sad story.
