Had a very brief powercut this morning, brief enough that my Mac rebooted rather than shut down. I then left for work. Came home a short while ago and the Mac was dead, no power to it at all. Did all the usual checks and couldn't find where the problem was.

Anyway, a quick google later, I found the solution via the apple forum (turns out it's not that uncommon) so I thought I'd share just in case anyone else had a similar issue. Basically, you just unplug the power cable from the back, hold the power button in on the Mac for 10 seconds and plug the power cable back in. Worked a treat!

We have just had a short power cut - a few seconds - so that's good to know - Thanks

I had a similar problem after our rcd tripped due to the dishwasher but after resetting it the fan on my mac was running at full speed and I kept reebooting it not knowing about having to remove the power cable and hold the button, seems like it cures all mac ills, thanks to mac rumours forum I discovered this handy tip.

Holding the button down without the machine plugged in resets some of the internal settings.
