This is, I'm sure, an easy one ;)

"POP"

I see this a lot in C&C of photos here, and it's sort of obvious what is meant, but I've googled and looked at some tog glossaries as well as the abbreviations thread here...

Is there a definition of POP, other than a sort of vague sense of colours popping out at you ? (my best guess as to what IS meant by POP o_O)

Thanks, I realise this is a daft question, but can reassure you it won't be my last

I have no idea what it means in your context. For me, POP meant Printing Out Paper.

Steve.

The only daft question is an unasked question..

POP a picture means to make it stand out.. for me its contrast colour and a bit of sharpening.. you cant describe POP because it might be different things need doing to different pictures.. So your half way right.. its to POP a picture. make it stand out more..

Thanks for both (!) replies, I'm learning as I go, here and with my camera, and there is a huge amount of terminology / abbreviations etc to get a grasp of, very few of which are ambiguous or open to interpretation, I like that POP is more subjective. ( tho not in Printing Out Paper context, that's pretty clear cut :p)

Don't you just love jargon?
Welcome to the club :) and the long slippery slope of obscure language and abbreviations.

Art tends to be subjective, which is why it can be difficult to express what makes an image work or not work.

A desire for objectivity frequently leads to an obsession with MTF charts.. ..

Googled that , and can safely say, that'll never be an obsession :D

Pop for me is better termed another three letter word: Wow.

It's something an image has which makes me think wow. It doesn't have to be a brilliant photo, but it stands out.

Of course, sometimes things can "pop" (or wow) for the wrong reason!

Obscure and Abbreviations, you aint seen nothing until you have worked in the NHS. Twenty years service here and they keep inventing new abbreviations on a daily basis. FYI :LOL:

" pop" also used a LOT in NHS...
Pop onto the bed... Pop this thermometer in your ear... Pop your trousers off sir... Etc
