If you are in the zone then your skill level is whatever it is but your attention to detail is intuitive. That's what it means, being at peak performance without having to think about what you're doing. Sometimes doing the right things without even knowing why you are doing them.

I think this is very close to the Spanish original, or maybe it actually is:

“Una buena imagen es creada por un estado de gracia. Gracia se expresa cuando se ha liberado de las convenciones, libre como un niño en su temprano descubrimiento de la realidad. El juego es entonces organizar el rectángulo”.

When I play with the word "gracia" I come up with "impartiality" or "open-mindedness" and it reads like this:

"A good image arises from a state of open-mindedness. Openness is expressed when it is free of conventions, free like a child discovering reality at a young age. The game then consists of organising the frame."

Which also makes more sense to me, but maybe it's too simple then.
