Yes
Well I've been thinking about starting this for a while, but I've had doubts that I'd be able to keep it going for a year, so I thought there's only one way to find out

My aim here is to take pictures every day and make a post here for each day. I work away from home quite a bit, particularly during spring and summer, so when this happens I'll have to catch up at weekends, but I'm sure it'll work out :)

I'm also aiming to vary my pictures as much as I can too, so I'm not going to have the same theme on 2 days running.

So here's my first picture:

007.jpg

It's a picture of a coot (or should have been), taken at my local duck pond a fraction of a second too late ... :|

I thought I'd post this one up because I feel I've missed alot of opportunities for good photographs recently, either through not having a camera with me or by missing the right moment to shoot; so I'm going to be trying this one again sometime soon as I walk by here on my way to the office :)

Thanks for looking!

Your story behind your pic made me laugh, look forward to following your progress.

Good luck.

If I had taken that it would have been overexposed and out of focus as well.

Looking forward to your updates.

Yes, it's both of those things :D

I've never really tried that much bird photography, which I've no excuse for really as I spend enough time watching them!

08.03.09 - Callander

Spent the afternoon in Callander today; it's been a while since I've had a long trip out somewhere and I heard word that it was snowing over there.

The last time I went over to Callander it was to see a Barrows Goldeneye that stayed on the river there for quite some time (a very rare bird to see here, it should have been in Iceland). I got a few pictures of the more commonly-seen form of goldeneye, and also saw my first dipper of the year, if only for about a second! :)

Good luck with your 365, looking forward to following your posts over time. Bet you will take some stunning landscape shots too being in Scotland (Scotland is my wife's favourite place on earth for the scenery/wildlife).

Thanks ShrubMonkey :)

I love the scenery here, and I don't really have to travel that far from home either for some really photogenic areas, which is great. I'm also quite lucky to work outdoors alot, so I'll be taking alot of landscape pictures :)

Is that the Teith / Ben Ledi? I had no idea you got Goldeneye there.

I just asked you a question about the weather on an other thread :bonk: should have asked here...

It is indeed. I was standing on the bridge on the A81 :)

I saw the goldeneye on the Teith from the main car park just past the turn off for the main road, I only saw the one but I seem to think there were perhaps 3 or 4 last time I was there.

There was quite a bit of snow there, it had settled well on the hills but it turned to rain in the town later on in the day.

1 a day for 365... ... sooner you than me Kay...

But three good 'uns to start with and all with a different style of story line... :D ... great beginnings... ;)

Good luck to you... :D ... only 362 to go... :naughty:

:p

Interesting shot, looks like a split plank of wood.

Thanks, I didn't take my camera out with me today as it was my first day in my new job, so had to think of something when I got back. I had a bit of a play with lighting to try and make it interesting and used a dim torch in the end.

Yes it's going to be quite a challenge but I'm enjoying it so far :D

I normally take my camera with me everywhere, I've made the mistake of not taking the camera a few times. It gets harder to think of something original to do, we call them "filler" shots.

Good luck with your 365, it is enjoyable!!

Thankyou, and thanks for the advice :) I won't be leaving it behind again!

A great start, the shot of Callander is lovely and the notebook very appealing too. You will be surprised how quickly time flies when you are doing this.

I find you have to be quick to catch the crocuses in Edinburgh.

You see the leaves appear, then the flowers, and usually by the time you've thought about going to get some pictures, the weather turns and all the flowers get dashed down. Some of the parks are full of them at the moment :)

I spent alot of time up a ladder today, looking at bridges.

Part of the work I'm doing at the moment involves checking gaps between bricks and cracks in stonework, to see if there are any places where bats could get in.

I've been playing with this one in PSP to bring out the colour of the paintwork and to make the brickwork stand out.

The day 4 shot is great, a real make you feel happy kind of shot. Only slight issue I have is that one blade of grass in the foreground that's out of focus.

A sight very few of us will ever see or think to look at, I quite like it.

Thanks JD. I've always liked looking at bridges, there's something about the way they're built I find quite fascinating. There'll probably be a few cropping up in this thread :)

Thankyou. I see what you mean about the blade of grass :)

Had a particularly uninspiring day sat in the office today. This is the view out of the window there, reflected in one of those gel wrist supports:

I couldn't get a sharper image than that with my compact.

To make up for it, I had a play with the crocus picture and removed the out-of-focus leaves from the foreground.

Better?

Not that happy with today's image. Will do better tomorrow :)

Just a quick snap from me, but of one of my favourite scenes: ploughed field, tractor, and an oak tree (cropped quite a bit):

and from a slightly different angle:

There's always something to watch here :)

CrailEvo.jpg

Had an enjoyable (but cold) day at Crail Airfield (Fife) today.

Took around 900 photos, and I'm quite impressed that my camera battery lasted that long. Over half the pics have been deleted already and there's an awful lot of processing to do. I think I need to get rid of the vegetation in the foreground of this one; I sat in slightly the wrong place I think but otherwise I quite like this one :)

Saw my first ladybird of the year today, inside my bedroom window.

Love the tree growing out of the tractor, never seen a shot like this and I'm sure I never will again, coo l:thumbs:

Thanks. I went down there in my lunch hour and I wanted to get a picture of the castle, with the tree and museum in the foreground, and it was quite a surprise to see the two tractors!

Yeah - looks like they are playing hide and seek, or the red tractor has a huge wig on

wow some superb shots in here to start off with, love the flowers and the tractor :D

Keep it up! Great start :)

Inspired by the 'Photogenic Castle' thread I was reading earlier, I had a look around and found this one.

It is photogenic, all the castles over here have been blown up or knocked down!!

I think it's a fascinating collection of buildings. This is the first time I've photographed it at night, not counting when I first got my SLR and I was in the 'what does that button do' stage! :)

I was quite surprised when I found this today. It's something I made almost 3 years ago when I was out working in the hills, I took it to the office where I worked and stuck it on a pin in a map on the wall. I left the company last summer for a new job, where I then got made redundant, so I ended up back where I used to work ... and it's still there. It's almost like I never left, there are still a few photos of mine on the walls, and another grass decoration I made in the meeting room :)
