Yes
I was woken up early by the cats this morning, they wanted feeding at 4am. As I got up I had a very bad attack of hiccups, something I have not had for many many years.
I duck ducked( my preferred search engine) hiccups, and one of the many cures suggested holding your breath.

I took a deep breath and held it for thirty seconds, it did the trick and disappeared. It may not be a suitable solution, for anyone with breathing and any other medical issues.

My preferred method as well. I also swallow whilst holding my breath, it seems to stop the hiccups quite quickly.

I know hiccups is a relatively simple thing to occur, and to rectify most of the time. But in the early hours of the morning, and after having some weird dreams, it can be a bit un nerving. o_O

When anything like this starts, hiccups, sneezing... I think of those stories I've read about people who started and then didn't stop for 27 years.

When I was reading up on it, it stated the longest bout of hiccups was 68 years long. From 1922 to 1990.
After such a long time, it probably became the norm for the person.

Mine only lasted a short while, but the jerks were a little violent and un nerving, especially waking up from a weird dream, I think I dreamt I was being choked. o_O

PS

The missus was sound asleep, so she is in the clear. ;)

Violent jerking is not recommended

I suppose you get used to almost anything.

When I worked as a bench engineer in computing I started to cough and I carried on for a very long time. I coughed day and night, it was as if I had to cough x times in x time and if I had a quiet period I then had a coughing fit as if I had to catch up with the quota. I think it was due to exposure to rosin, it was in the solder at the time and in those days where I worked at least there was no extraction.

Those flux fumes could certainly f*** with your breathing.......and I only did building as an amateur!

I find using fingers and thumbs to close my ears and nose and swallow a few times(usually helped by taking a mouthful of water first) works most of the time.

I would have tried drinking water, had holding breath not worked.

PS

There was a whole lot of remedies to try and stop hiccups, some sounding plausible, while others sounding rather silly and a little iffy.
Such as standing on your head, to having your back passage massaged, ( yes it really does suggest that one, on one website).

Me telling the missus I have hiccups, and asking could she massage my rear end, to ease the problem. I think I know what she would say.
