A sad day - Canon R5 - Long Exposure issues (What are your thoughts???)

Cars and cameras, both extremely expensive, oozing with cutting edge technology, but utterly useless at some point.

Canon R5 MK2 - I'd read that it had been spotted in public somewhere, and had some kind of vent, on the body. Do you think it may have a fan? or an exhaust for expelling hot pixels ;)
More likely a slot to put in your credit card for the monthly subscription mode..... :exit:

It is largely irrelevant what I may think. Current body size is really too small for dealing with the heat. R5c is a frankenmonster, and presumably compromised on weather sealing. I can't understand why they simply don't make a taller body by 2cm which will allow for air gaps and better heatsink and as a side effect you could actually handhold it comfortably without having to buy an extra £50 worth of Chinese metal from smallrig just to be able to use it

What I can't grasp is why sensors that are affected by heat make it to market. The R5 has bulb mode for a reason, but if the sensor can't handle a 2-minute exposure, then surely it's not fit for purpose.

In my case, I'm guessing that they'll change the sensor. But, for one, a new sensor could be equally as bad, and for two, shouldn't a factory-assembled sensor have been tested prior to leaving the factory?

I'm just guessing this is simply the best the had / have. Sony sensors are ahead, hence why I like the idea of z8 and I too have a tone of ef mount glass

Just to recap - what is the quality like with noise reduction switched on in the camera?

I wonder what is going on inside the camera. Wizardry programming to cover up issues, perhaps?

It feels like you have to pump up the car tyres before you can drive the car.
Pixel mapping is normal across digital cameras, I have Sony FX30 has a splash message asking to do it every other time you turn it on.
It detects any that are stuck and averages the reading from that one against adjacent ones to use instead.

@Gary Rawlins - how did the repair go? I'm getting a little frustrated with the number of hot pixels I'm having to deal with in post with my R5. Was wondering if I need to send it to Canon to have then take a look at it.

TIA
