I have a love of film (right place for me ey?) and am toying with the idea of picking up a nice second hand Nikon F5. If I did this, however, my only lens to cover the wider end would be, for the time-being at least, my 17-55 designed for digital crop sensors but I have read that it works without vignetting from 24mm and up. Now for the question; am I correct in thinking that because of the 100% viewfinder any vignetting to appear would be visible prior to taking a shot?
Thanks for your time, and hello as well!

I have a F5 and I'd totally reccomend one lol

Have a look at grays of westminister as well , I picked mine up for £299 :)

I would really avoid DX lenses on Film. I'm not sure they would really do it justice. I'm guessing you've got other lenses as well though

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, I have a couple of other lenses and I was only viewing it as a temporary solution before I can pick up a couple of primes to cover the wider focal lengths.

I have tried something similar to what you've said albeit with a Canon 50e and sigma 10-20.

ther was pretty severe vignetting towards the edges despite not being visible in the viewfinder ( I'm guessing it wasn't 100%)

Another point is that image sharpness suffers severely as you approach the edges as the lens is simply not designed for such use.

ive just put the 18 - 55 ( dx ) kit lens that came on a d50 on an fm3a and i could only see the effects of it at the wide end , but the view finder is something like 93 % ??
i think on the 5 with 100% you would see the circle when it starts to appear .

Thanks for the replies. I'll stick it on and see what it looks like and then add a prime or two to my kit when the money is there.
