online247 - web address is 3 weeks old (26th june) registered to
ONLINE24 LIMITED

GB,
Site has no physical address details on it that I can find, has a UK phone number (0845) but the spelling is all U.S. Site is hosted in the U.S. and seems to be using a standard e-commerce template which they have not adapted completely as it still has odd headers showing here and there.

Stay clear is my advice.

Why is this software so cheap?

These software programs are copies of retail versions, they do not include a box, paper manual, or license. But don't worry they work just the same and include serial numbers for full unlimited use.

Can I register/activate this software?

This software can not be registered. If activation is required a small program is included to help activate it. You can still download updates for some programs like Office.

oooh aaar jim laad! they be pyrates methinks!

Talk Photography is in no way endorsing purchasing from the site mentioned above. The software is suspected as being counterfeit and should be avoided.

I could go check if thats an actual shop as its 10 minutes drive from where I live

I don't think that there is reason to close the thread at the moment as neither the OP or TPf is endorsing or encouraging the purchase of possibly illegal products.

Doug in my opinion has posted the thread as a warning to our members to prevent financial loss.

If and when it turns into a discussion about illegal products being purchased, it goes!

Whoops, I accidently emailed FACT with the url of the software site.

Completely illegal, as stated in their FAQ

No box, manual is fine - the license is what costs the money. You're paying £20 for an illegal copy of software, its akin to buying it at a car boot.

Same old story - if it looks to good to be true....:suspect:

I know that area, and the address, I am 99% sure, is residential. Proof of nothing, but less comforting than having a shop-based, official business to back it all up.

Certainly caution should be taken!

Cheers,
James

James a few of those houses in that bit of road on that side are businesses. I know there is a solicitors right there. I looked on google and that address used to be some sort of detective agency

The address will be a mail-drop outfit, similar to but not MBE, as I've found over 20 firms linked to that address. And I don't think it is a solicitors or accountants premises acting as the Registered Office as most firms I've found are not Limited.

My post was intended to draw attention to the fact that I thought these sites to be somewhat 'Iffy'.

No enticement to buy was intended, implicit or otherwise - which is why the title of my post included the words 'RIP OFF'.

On other occasions, wher I spot what is apparently an excellent, cheap, one off bargain, I make it quite clear that this is the case, when I make such a post.

I'm stunned they are actually so blatant about it, lol! Presumably when the old bill pay a visit they'll just deny all knowledge? Unless they can find any hard evidence then I guess the cops will leave empty handed and that's that. :shake:
