I'm organising a little golf break for 8 of us.

Format will be Sunday : doubles matchplay & Monday singles matchplay.

Going to get a little trophy to present to the MVP (Most valuable player) as well as the usual nearest the pin and longest drive trophies.

Question is, how do I determine the MVP?

I was going to use the hole that any matches get closed out on, ie. if in a doubles match one pairing win 4&3 they would get 3 points, 2&1 would get 1 point and 1 UP just 1/2 point.

Can anyone suggest a better way?

How about using Stableford scoring on the front 9?

This is a challenging one Jeff, having run and been on a few of these types of golf breaks. You will also have a problem if someone wins 3&1 perhaps as well as 2 up.

Maybe just give pts for winning, or maybe how many they win by, so 1 up = 1 pt, 2 up and 2&1 = 2pts, 3&2 and 3&1 = 3 pts etc ... with a half pt for a tie (unless playing sudden death) ...

I would do it this way, but maybe double the points for the singles. Keeps interest going to the second day for those that lost the doubles.

How about this:

Doubles matchplay points awarded as follows:

Draw - 1pt
1 Up - 6 pts
2 Up - 8
2&1 - 10
3&1 - 12
3&2 - 14
4&3 - 16
5&4 - 18
etc

Singles

Draw - 3pts
1 Up - 9 pts
2 Up - 12
2&1 - 15
3&1 - 18
3&2 - 21
4&3 - 24
5&4 - 27
etc
