Hi,

I had some corporate work the other week. They have decided that they want the photo's B&W with an element pulled out of every one e.g. a letter box and it made purple. I hardly ever use photoshop. Could someone please explain how I would do this?

Much appreciated :)

Luke

It's called selective colour Luke and there are several ways of doing it.

1.If that's the only purple in the image then it's easy. In ACR just pull out all the other colours. :) Quick and easy and you can save it as a preset too.

2.If there are other similar colours then you will need to mask the box, you can do it using the magic wand or use a colour picker. Inverse selection and turn the rest B&W leaving the colour.

3.Thirdly, make a duplicate layer, turn it all B&W then erase the box by hand. Tricky but blown up it can be done.

hope that helps

Hi Ali, I know its selective colour I think I may have explained slightly wrong. They want me to actually make something purple, the post box is actually red. Thats the bit thats getting me

Oh Ok Luke. Select the box using the magic wand or use a colour picker. Once it is selected go Layer, new adjustment layer, hue/saturation and simply change the colour. :)

There's a pantone palette hidden in PS. swatches/load swatches . . . I think :)
Alternatively - colour picker.

Hi Luke - eyedropper in the tools palette.

Fab :)

I always find that with photoshop, you think you have got to grips with it to a reasonable standard but I swear, I'm still learning new things every week!

be nice to see an example of the finished work
