I am looking to buy a Portaflash kit.

Does anyone know if the flash tube on portaflash is user changeable - and how easy is it to change it?

Thanks

Ujjwal

Portaflash was designed long before user changeable flash tubes were thought of.
But don't worry about it, flash tubes hardly ever fail. The ability of the user to change them is more of a marketing point than a real benefit.

You might want to look around at other makes too though - flash has come on in leaps and bounds during the last few years.

Thanks Gary. I wasn't sure how frequesntly flash tubes fail ( I have never seen one fail in a normal hotshoe flash, but studio flash may be different, so didn't know how critical that would be.

I have looked at other options; but portaflash seems to be available a lot in the used market; and the prices are good.

If I do end up becoming very interested in studio photogrpahy ( dont know that yet; since i have never tried it); I might upgrade at a later date.

Right now, Interfit Ex150 and portaflash seems very attractive at a sub 200£ price point

I have used Elinchroms daily for 18months with same tube - Just need to watch for a bit of a colour change as they get older. The shop I used said they sell very few flash tubes

Of the 2, I would suggest you go for the Interfit EX150. It has interchangeable accessories, which is important, although they are a non-standard fitting.
