A present from Godox

Just done a test of the H1200B head and some interesting things, compared to direct on head and the H600B

Head with reflector - f12.7
H600B with reflector - f11.2 (approx -1/3 stop)
H1200B twin head - f18.1 (approx 1 1/3 stop gain)
H1200B single head - f12.7 (no loss)

So the H1200B being twice the power would be expected but in fact it is better than that so must be improvements in the bulb and that is confirmed by using in single head mode.

1200 head is just two 600 tubes twinned together isn't it? Such a logical and simple way of doing it, basically the same as ganging a couple of speedlites together. It also means, I assume, that HSS performance should be uncompromised - just twice as bright :)

Basically yes (tubes slightly different)

Could also be seen as doubling battery or increasing amount of 600W HSS pops before thermal protection kicks in

A double-helping of everything you want, and only half the stuff you don't  Apart from the extra cost and weight of course, but I don't think anything else gets near Godox for portable power, complete with all the bells and whistles, and it's still not expensive compared to premium brands.

Another way of doing it might be to simply have two units with two head extensions, and fit them to two modifiers/softboxes on stands side by side. I do this now and again for extra power and/or a bigger light source. It kind of begs the question, how about a softbox with mounts for two heads? Is there such a beast?

very neat.

Twin tube heads from bowens/profoto/bron are sometimes used for getting a fast recycle time when you still need to shoot at high power, but means you can have both packs at half the power setting. Great for sports and lifestyle images. Interesting to see this level of product from Godox, they're clearly going places!
