A new way to ruin film shots

Well, new to me anyway. I was winding a roll of 120 film on to a developing spool in total darkness and when I came to the end, I couldn't find my scissors to cut the end free. So I thought I'd just rip the tape off the end of the film. Imagine my surprise when I got a bright little sparkle of static! I'd already ruined the first frame (test film in new Bessa 1, forgot to set focus) so it didn't matter, but suffice to say I won't be doing that again.
 
I did that once - got a static lightburst - separating a sheet of Acros in a Quickload holder from the sheath.
 
I gently peel apart the tape holding the film to the paper, so hopefully no sparks there. I do, however, rip the paper when I begin unravelling it and get to the start of the film. Not had any ruined shots as yet, but maybe I'll just fold the paper back on itself rather than tearing it in future(although I do tear it quite gently).

It wasn't ripping the paper that caused the sparks, it was attempting to tear/peel the tape away from the film.
 
That's an interesting point that I'd never considered. I use a darkroom for tank and film holder loading, and it hadn't occured to me that using a changing tent/bag meant that you couldn't see ( :) )what was happening.
