Hi guys,

Been a long time lurker in the forum. Coming from a long time DSLR user, I just bought a Mamiya 645 Pro TL (SV Pack II) on impulse. It comes with body, 80mm standard lens, 120 film back, power grip WG402, AE Finder FK402 for approx £325. Hope I didn't over pay for it though (did I?) :thinking:

Anyway I am excited to start using the camera and joining the community. Going down to collect it on Tuesday!

Meanwhile, would anyone have any tips for using this camera? Been trawling through the internet trying to find information about the camera.

Never used a 645 but hey...it's Medium Format...nice one.

Hi there and welcome,

I certainly do not think you paid over the odds, a lot of people were after that kit so you done well to win, as you know a good lens can be £150-200 and a back alone about £50, so I think you done good.

Anyway it's not about the price it's about the shots so get shooting and posting, then the feedback will tell you if you have got your monies worth.:thumbs:
 
It's a great camera, I've got two of the Mamiya 645 Pro's which sadly don't get much use these days. With the AE finder & power drive it's just like using an overgrown 35mm SLR.

Get yourself another film back so you can swap between BW and Slide film mid roll. It's also got a pretty big mirror so if you're doing long exposures then mirror lock & a good tripod is essential.

Oh and don't load the film back to front - a few photographer friends I've lent mine to have managed that on their first rolls!
 
Oh heh. Good tip on the film. Hopefully I wouldn't make that kind of mistake.

Have fun with it. The manuals, should you need them are downloadable - just google buktus - and I get 120 film mostly from 7Dayshop. I wouldn't bother with OOD stuff to begin with: you want to know that what comes out is down to your handiwork and the kit - not compromised by beginning to degrade.

There's nothing wrong with the standard 80mm lens and it'll do you unless your kit monster gets an urge for the faster version. I have a 645 Pro similarly equipped with AE finder and power winder and whilst it's certainly chunky and I've never felt the need to give my arm a rest, I've just put a handstrap on mine.

There's a good guy on EBay and the web called Ian Bennell - http://ianbfoto.com/home.php - who knows his stuff on Mamiyas and is fair with his prices.

You'll find you start referring to 35mm as "sub-miniature" by the way. :clap:
