Well, some of my Flickr pictures have just crept over 100 views which may not sound like much but I'm really chuffed as someone who hadn't ever used a DSLR 8 months ago!

One shot from yesterday is already up to 46 which is my record for the first day after posting!

I really look forward to the next shoot and am excited every time the shutter closes to see what I've captured

I think I'm officially an amateur photographer!! :)

Well done. Pleased you're having fun after all that's what it's all about.
My personal best is 11000 in one day :-)

Nick, i've recently had a few go through the 100 barrier and even though it was a self imposed milestone, I was still pretty chuffed...

That said I have learned through browsing flickr that if your goal is purely views then you're better off taking a picture of your car, as I see plenty of (imo) pretty poor car snaps with 100's or even 1000's of views - especially if your car is a mk2 Golf or something like that :D

I have just looked at your flickr and your images have gone from strength to strength, if my opinion means anything at all; But you have the advantage of being in one of the most photographic counties in the UK ( jealous ) and, like myself, you have a D7000, I may not know everything about my camera but it is encouraging me to look harder at what I want to achieve and I suspect this is what is happening with you.

Cheers for your comments Brian

I have short term and long term goals and ultimately want to get some of my pictures on display in a gallery (when I think they are good enough!)

I'm 7 years away from retirement at which point I shouldn't need to work full time ever again so I'd really love to try and earn anything however small from something I love spending time doing.

It will fit in well with travel plans I have as well

It's very satisfying to get up to a hundred views on your photos. Flickr really surprises me at times though, some shots I've put on have taken a while to even get any views but one I put on the other day has had nearly 90 views in 3 days.

Also the amount of views per day I get is also very erratic. I usually get between 30 and 50 views a day, but on the 4th Sept I got 579 views, then back to my average for a couple of days then I got 301 views the next. The 579 was a personal best with couple of 300+ and quite a few at over 100 coming next. It's a bit of a disappointment when I've had a lot of views but don't get many comments or favourites.

Flickr surprises me too. I've now had 5 shots in explore in the last week which is bonkers ( I'm not complaining :D )

It wasn't so long ago ( a few months max ) that I would get a couple of views per photo per day but now it's going up and has been thousands per day.

Most importantly, it's given me some "faith" in what I'm doing and re-kindled my passion for photography. I just wish I had more time to do it but this blooming work thing seems to take up my days..

For somebody who started shooting 8 months ago, your pictures are fantastic! I started with photography over two years ago and I'm a long way off your standard :(

My Flickr - I just don't think I've captured my own 'style' yet... I dunno.

Always good to get views.

I have noticed that some photographs have been putb into loads of groups. Do you have to actually uplaod the photograph to every group?

Regards.

You answered the reason why i put them in several groups in your first sentence Andy. As a beginner feedback good or bad is important to me to see what I got right and what I got wrong. I look at some photos on there and realise how far there is to go.

Similarly a trip around the Joe Cornish Gallery I had a few weeks ago was both inspiring and crushing with the realisation how high the bar is set to be a successful landscape photographer

The learning curve is steep and long in photography :bonk:

It's as simple as tagging them in the groups so very easy and quick to do in Flickr.

Thanks for the comments Matt and Eddy, they're appreciated

I'll get there eventually I hope but if I don't it won't be through not trying hard enough!

Steep and long, indeed.

I went to the Joe Cornish Gallery a few months ago and was in awe of his photographs. Not just the composition and subject matter but his understanding of light. Very impressive. Couldn't afford to buy a anything, though, but I was very tempted :)

Cheers.

Some nice images there nick you have a good eye.

Thanks Robert,

I really love taking pictures even if ultimately it doesn't go anywhere at least all my pictures on my walls at one will be mine :D
