A love/hate relationship with Leica

I know that feeling of sitting there staring at the new toy that someone else has and going all goggly eyed with the overwhelming sense of "need it"!

I have to say though, buying a D7000 to take a $15 course is not something I can ever think I'd do! What a great story to start your real journey into photography.

Interesting, I enjoyed that. On the whole Leica thing...

One thing that I've never really bought into is brands. If it's a British brand I might be more interested, supporting jobs and the economy and all that and at least that could be a reason for being a brand fan... but being a fan or follower of a foreign brand just seems alien to me. The closest I've come I suppose is with cars. Anyway, I can see the appeal of rangefinders and indeed I've owned two and lovely things they were but the weren't Leica's as my theory was that I could get 99.9% of the image quality for a fraction of the price if I went for the non Leica stuff. Then came the small form factor digital MFT and that killed 35mm RF's for me.

So, I can understand being a rangefinder fan but I still don't get and will almost certainly never get the whole I must have a Leica thing. Fair play to those who do though :D

LOL that was a good read. I like your honesty about having a serious case of camera envy and yeah, buying a D7000 to attend that course was a genius move!

Good read and interesting in the cameras you have purchased. I used to be in a finacial position when I could more or less have what I wanted and to be honest at times I made the most of it. If I had been into photography at that particular time I may have followed a similiar route as you in regards to gear. For the younger readers, we used to be called DINKY'S in those days. (Double Income No Kids Yet). still no kids though and too old now.

Due to ill-health that has all gone now, so make the most of it and above all, enjoy.

^ Yep, me too. But the 2nd income was that of SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) who wastes no opportunity to explain the difference between a "need" and a "want" :)

Must admit I do like the look of Leica kit, even if I'm not always enthralled with the price.
