I love the 28mm field of view. To some it's weird - 35mm gives context and they're usually sharper, 24mm is wider and probably more popular for that reason alone, but a 28mm always feels like a great point and click lens.
I've recently come into possession of the ef 28mm 1.8 and to be honest I wasn't expecting much. It's kind of old, and the price it fetches (typically £200-£250) definitely puts it firmly in the budget end of lenses. However, I've been proven utterly wrong!
Wide open, it's really sharp but with a glowy sort of look - the resolution is there but there is some kind of aberration reducing contrast. Bokeh schmokeh, who cares, but it's actually fine if that's something you feel matters. Stopped down, though, the contrast increases and at 2.8 the lens is really sharp and contrasty.
It's not massive or heavy, auto focus is quick but tracking on my 6D is terrible (mostly the camera to be honest, so can't really comment on the lens itself there) and it doesn't cost a fortune. I think I'd rather a 28mm fixed point and click camera, such as a ricoh grii or similar, but for the money and quality I'm really happy with this lens. Does anyone else love it?
