To the summer hols,
My 13 year old daughter was involved in an accident at school…..she was hit in the eye with a cricket ball during PE. Although she was in some state when I collected her from school yesterday, she’s not too bad now. So yesterday I spent 6 hours in various hospitals, with another appointment on Saturday and probably various dates throughout the summer holidays. There is a nasty scratch on the pupil of her eye, some blood in her pupil, an obvious pressure build up and some bruising….oh and poor vision in that eye but other than that she’s really ok. Believe it or not, she is more upset at missing the last day of school and ruining her 100% attendance record ???
Funny thing is (well not so funny) …..a few years ago, we went through the same thing with the eldest daughter, who had a stone thrown at her in school which hit her left eye (The same side) and caused pretty much the same thing. She thankfully made a full recovery although she doesn’t need glasses, she has to go for regular checks.
Anyway, hope the rest of you have a better time of it.
Ken.

Ken,

Sorry to hear that about your daughter, I'm sure she'll still enjoy her summer holidays, although as you say, it's not the best start in the world.

As you know kids have a funny back of being able to bounce back from all incidents, including things like this, so I wouldn't worry too much :)

At least she's OK (well...as OK as can be), that's the main thing.

Hope her summer holidays pick up.....

I'll be the first to say it, because someone else will.....photos? :gag::lol: (of the injury, not your daughter :))

Same sort of thing happenned to me many many years ago when the playing field had both Football and Cricket side by side.

I was playing football and got hit on the collar bone by the cricket ball.

I really hope your daughter gets better soon and her holidays pick up from this.

Hope she makes a full recovery with perfect vision and gets to enjoy her summer hols.
I once knocked someone out with a cricket ball when bowling, hit her on the temple and broke her specs, I felt dreadful.
Hate those balls now, guess your daughter will too!

pass on our best wishes Ken, im hope everything works out ok!

Cheers guys...kids eh, who'd have em! Pics may be a bit of a prob, she doesn't like her pic taken at the best of times and being a girl and a teen with a black eye.......especially after her dad was so rude to be making fun of it when we got home.......After a quick game of Bingo.....Kirsty's eye...all blood shot, 2 little ducks...but Kirsty didn't... then suggesting what she may like for tea, all eye related... Bridseye, eyerish stew you know the stuff...:D :D so pics unlikely. She is looking a lot better this morning and doesn't have as big a shiner as I'd thought she would but there's still 6 weeks to go yet.

Get some arnica cream on it mate, will bring out the bruise but make it go much quicker.

Take from someone who's had five black eyes in the last two years, first one is cool and then the rest are just annoying.

Yikes! I hope she gets well soon. I once had a baseball bat hit near my right right in PE. Dangerous things, PE!! :P

lmao. err... I meant to say right eye.

That's a damn shame for her and for you and yours Ken ... sorry to hear about it ... :p

Had to smile at the bit about being more upset at missing the last day at skool etc., ... typical kid reaction ...

Hope she is OK though and nothing lasting occurs ... ... eyes are very delicate things ... and you don't have to tell me that one ...

Accidents will always happen Ken, The main thing being she makes a full recovery and has no side effects after it.

Wish her a get well soon from me Ken..:)

PS: Not a good time to ask but what about a shot of the black eye..

O dear sorry to hear that Ken.......hope she gets well soon mate.

Cheers guys, I passed on all your best wishes and mentioned how you'd like to see some pics of the injury.......she wasn't impressed and the answer was NO!

She gets that from the wife, I hated school....my Uncle was our local schoolboard man, so I had to go. I'm pleased she enjoys school so much and is doing very well too....my youngest Mathew 6 hates school though..

Yes and it was a complete accident......and thankfully I think she is going to be fine, it could have been a lot worse.
Thanks again.
