Hi all,

I've had my Nikon D5100 for about 3 months now and I'd like to get a flash for it. I was hoping I could get some advice off you guys as to what would be a good starter flash. I'd like to do some portraits of my family so something suitable for that would be good. I'm not after spending loads but on saying that I'm not a cheapskate either. I'm a big believer in the "buy cheap, buy twice" philosophy.

Any advice would be appreciated, or just a point in the right direction to a thred that already covers this.

Many thanks,
Mat.

Have had Jessops 360 AFD for quite sometime now. Quite pleased with it and probably the cheapest available. They may still have an offer.

You may also want to try getting some reviews on Nissin ones which could be middle of the road.

On the expensive range, will be the SB series from Nikon but dont think the basic one (SB400 i think) doesnt have the swivel feature (so just tilt on it)

Hope that helps.
