Don't know alot about the subject really but this image strikes me as a possible canditate for HDR, its my old 749 and my mates T9 above Ullswater in 2005, taken on a P&S.
Feel free to have a play !

I'd say the second more than the first. The first one seems to have a decent enough range already, although the lowlights around the nikes may benefit slightly fro a little treatment. Nice machinery, though. :)

Its obviously impossible to create an HDR from a single jpg. If you've got the raw files, then it could be done from that. The only way to know for sure is to have a go.

But, I was reminded of a post by HimUpNorth a while back which took a while to find, but I did - Contrast Masking - an HDR alternative: here.

Using a similar workflow to that described by Gary in that post, I managed these 2 edits:

That exercise has produced what I think is a much better version of your 1st pic. As for the 2nd, I'm not so sure and it would probably take a more experienced PS person than me to sort it out. But hope that helps.

Thanks for that, obviously this pic is never going to great due the original but I see what you have done, essentially brightened up the foreground and darkened the sky - I will have a read up about it and try and take some shots with a view to practice this technique !
