I am going to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo tomorrow night and would love some hints and tips for improving my night time shots at this event
This is the first time i have tried to photograph something like this and would appreciate any help
As regards lenses, I have a 50mm, 18-200mm and a 70-300mm. I also have a Jessops 360 AFD flash

Thanks guys :)

First, check the weather forecast. It could be a braw nicht but then again it could pee doon a' nicht! Forget the flash, you'll be far too far away from the action for it to have any effect. Depending on where you are sitting, you might as well stick to the longer lens(es). You didn't say what camera you are using but you want to bump the ISO up a bit to get a god shutter speed as the lighting is very variable. Try and capture candid moments when there's is less action. You'll have a better chance of good shots.

Oh, you didn't say whether it's the early or late show you are going to (there's two on a Saturday) the early will have better light but the later one has much better fireworks at the end!

Thanks guys. I am going to the late show and here's hoping it does not rain, but I aint holding my breath

Youll get some good shots of the fireworks around midnight then. I'm thinking of going up Calton Hill tonight and getting them from there.
