I feel the need to offload.

I was waiting to cross a dual carriage way this morning. It was quite busy as it was school time and I was in fact walking my 2 kids to school. I look down for a few seconds as the oncoming traffic is clearly very busy and were not going to cross for at least the next minute. When I look up again, theres an escort van, STOPPED on the carriageway, flashing his lights and beckoning us to cross.

I mean, its very nice and all, but how ********* stupid. To stop on a busy dual carriageway, he was blocking my view of the 2nd lane so I could have walked into a potential disaster.

Have some people….. no scratch that.

Some people have NO road sense at all do they !!

This is to be the start of a series of rants from me

Ive now been driving 4 weeks and in that time ive seen some extremely stupid things... a couple of times ive wondered if the freedom driving has given me is worth the stress caused by having to deal with half-wits on a much more regular basis.
 
how evil can you get ? trying to help some stranger and his two kids cross a dangerous road :)
it might not have been the cleverest thing to do, but its not really worth getting angry about. they were only trying to help out.

come to think of it, crossing a busy dual carraigeway with two kids doesnt sound like the best bit of road sense itself. But i guess you had no choice
 
what really jibes me as a driver is when old people etc cross the road, its not the act of crossing the road that really ****ing annoys me, its the insistance of the person who has had to stop to let them cross because they are a little slow moving that then beeps the horn WHATS THAT GONNA DO APART FROM DEMORALISE THE PERSON, its not gonna speed them up is it!


infact car horns annoy me alot of the time, my car broke down on a flyover once, i had to push it on my own across 2 lanes, up a gradient and then up a high curb to get it clear of the traffic, i could have ripped the throat out of the little squirmy business man who started beeping his horn at me, (infact i think i flipped him the bird) is beeping your horn suddenly going to harness some sort of magic power within me (like eric in banana man) that makes me super strong and make me push the car any ****ing quicker you low life pathetic scum.

edit: infact the thing that annoyed me even more was the policeman who stopped, told me that if i didnt have the car moved off the road within 2 minutes he would push it out of the way, and then drove off, WHY DONT YOU GIMME A HAND SHIFTING IT THEN YOU HAT WEARING GOB****E!
 
You should have left the car where it was, gone over to the driver who honked his horn and asked very politely if there was something wrong. The extra delay really p***** them off. Sorry - upsets them.
 
I've given up ranting about bad drivers. I do 30k a year plus, so I see so much stupidity it just comes as second nature now.

My dad said to me when I passed my test:

i've got to admit that i see someone doing something and i get so ****ed off with them. Then another time i'll be doing exactly the same thing and i think i'm in the right :)

for example, if i get undertaken on a motorway i'm thinking 'what a ****'. And then another time i'll be undertaking people and blaming the 4x4 hogging the fast lane.
basically, i'm a terrible hypocrite :)

more reasuring was whacking my foot through the front grill of my car, which amusingly shocked the solenoid, which allowed the starter to work, so next time i turned the key i could drive off :)
 
People who don't move over annoy the hell out of me, specially since where I live now I tend to be on 2 lane dual carriageways, and i'm a young male, so insurance forces me to have low powered vehicles, so I can't just put my foot down and accelerate again.
I'm not really sure what I think about my own driving, I try to be good, but i'm generally impatient, so can be quite cheeky, I won't sit in a queue if i can drive to the front of it in the other lane.
 
i am a lorry driver and i see some crazy things that people do when you drive about some people just are not borne to drive at all lol

as a matter of interest, what do you think of other lorry drivers?

i remember the days when lorry drivers used to be revered
as kings of the road and really skilled drivers. Almost like driving a lorry was a talent.
Nowadays a see a lot of truck drivers that are just dumb (i'm sure you arent one of them :) ). They drive trucks like cars! Flying through villages over the speed limit not giving any thought for that fact it takes about a mile to actually stop one of those things!

you do realise that behaviour like that is what delays a queue further, if everyone merged asap then the traffic wouldnt be stop start as the rep****s try to bolsh their way in at the front of the queue, why in the name of **** should the rest of us sit patiently while you drive round the outside and join at the front....



queue like the rest of us, its the one thing us brits are supposed to be good at!

i actually disagree with that

on a dual carraigeway its more effective if everyone queues in both lanes and they merge in turn.
when everyone hits the brakes and queues in one lane it just makes things worse, and the queue is twice as long.
 
Surely its as broad as long... if everyone forms 1 nice long queue (as is the British Way) then the exit is nice and freeflowing... whereas in 2 seperate queues its stop start at the exit, as cars merge 1 by 1.

but everyone still has to merge, they just have to do it at higher speed whilst everyone is doing an emergency stop.
also, if the queue is twice as long is starts affecting other roads too.
on some roadworks i've seen signs saying 'use both lanes and merge in turn'

the problem with queuing in one lane is if you dont get in the other lane quick enough then no ****er lets you in, because they think you are jumping the queue

cars varely merge 1 by 1 though, because you get some **** forcing his way to the front of a queue because he doesnt think he should have to wait like the rest of us, he continues right to the end of the traffic queue and then forces his way in as the cones make him join the traffic, causing everybody behind to slam the brakes on (as he rarely waits for a gap) causing those concentina traffic effects where you crawl forwards 20yards before stopping and then crawling forwards again. if when the motorway is reduced down to 2 lanes and everyone merged in turn it would move the queue quicker, but that doesnt register in the brain of these people as they barge themselves to the front of the queue (you know the ones beeping their horns and flashing their lights in your rear view mirroras your merging with the middle lane, who then fly all the way to the cones before slamming on and forcing themselves in

im talking about when in a traffic queue and a lane is closed, everyone else is sat patiently in a queue in the 2 open lanes, and repman comes flying down the merging lane, making no attempt to merge until hes forced to by a line of her magesties finest orange cones.


i usually excercise the rule that once is painfully obvious that you should be merging with the traffic (i.e your lane is clear and everybody else is queued in the open lanes) then **** them, leave them hanging out in the other lane, they aint merging infront of me! (
 
There are 2 classes of drivers like that...

1) BMW owners, they get a lot of flak but it seems most deserve it.

2) Banger drivers who couldnt care about the odd knock or scrape so pick a nice car (usually Jag/Merc) to cut in front of knowing full well the driver will give way rather than risk a prang.

the trouble is mate it used to be like that but unfortunetly eu rules has allowed less skilled drivers and eu drivers onto the road that has caused a increase in accidents caused by lorries so unfortunely there is less care nowadays
 
i agree with mr bing on this british lorry drives ive always seen to be good drivers, but the amount of times ive had to take avoiding action from a truck from poland, latvia, hungary etc on the back, i think its because the sit on the wrong side but they are not at all wary of cars overtaking on the right on motorways and often pull out when its not clear.
 
in my experience there is a fare share of incompetent british registered trucks on the road too. I've noticed recently a trend for the trucks to drive in the 3rd and even 4th lanes on motorways!

I told my missus never to sit in her car on the hard shoulder if it conks out too. The amount of trucks i've seen that drift off onto the hard shoulder. I've even seen drivers drifting over there whilst sending a text.

but i dont have that much room to talk, as i have done some really dumb things myself in my 18 years of (and sometimes off) the road. Including once forgetting i was driving!
 
to true whitewash and true as well badger. but your right whitewash it doesnt help when they sit on the other side of the lorry
 
FWIW, I was talking about queues at junctions, largely approaches to roundabouts where you just need to be quite definite that you are going as soon as the chance presents, or those bizarre traffic lights where you stack up in 2 lanes, then almost immediately go into 1. If you are assertive and quick off the lights, you will normally get in front and out the other persons way.
Some road signs really suck, doesn't make it easy to drive well if you don't know where you are meant to be going, or what lane they try and feed off which exit of the roundabout.
 
There's a relatively new small roundabout on the Nairn/Inverness road, one lane splits into two lanes at the roundabout and back into one lane at the exit. It's an accident waiting to happen as guys who drive like nutter426 use the right lane to effectively overtake on the roundabout. The person who thought that up should be chastised severely.
 
I often drive on motorways in the early hours. What amazes me is the number of drivers that keep in the centre/outside lane on an empty road.
 
i drive an hgv around nottingham all day, for a living. it never fails to amaze me how many ignorant/stupid/blind/suicidal some drivers are.:(
i realy enjoy the ones who look away when they pull out infront of you.if they cant see you( 13 feet high , 8 feet wide and YELLOW) then you wont run into/over them.:cuckoo:
 
OK, today its parking !!

I'll have to assume (for assumings sake) that anyone who owns a 4x4 or "soft roader" has never ever been a pedestrian in their life.

They seem to like parking them on street corners for some reason, half on the kerb. Maybe its so they can tell their neigbours that they went "off road" today or something, I dont know. Anyway, this means that its really difficult to cross the road as you cant see whats comming. Car drivers do it too, but at least you can see over them to see whats comming, still dont make it right though !!

You must feel sorry for them - most of them (with the exception of farmers and people who have a genuine use for these gas guzzlers) are allergic to walking!
 
The thing that annoys me most is peoples lack of lane disapline.

admitadly sometime i sit in the middle lane but thats only when the 1st lane is in a bad state of repair and you end up tramlining in the worn ruts of the road.

but when people sit in the out side lanes with no body infront of them and no body to over take!.

I UNDERTAKE THEM ALL!!!

i have been known to come along in the 1st lane then move straight into the 3rd lane to get past the idiot in the 2nd lane, and move straight back into the 1st lane:lol:

i nearly always under take, i know its dangerous but they have just traveled 5 miles without changing lanes so why would they change then!.

ive under taken 15 cars in one go before! a whole 1 mile of the motorway completly clear while the rest struggle in there monotamous way.

when me and my wife are in convoy we are terrible, in and out, in and out!, very dangerous :nono:

but if everyone learnt how to use the road we wouldnt have to do it!.

oh and when people down move into the 2nd lane when theres a slip road coming up annoys the hell out of me too,

they just sit there cruising at the same speed as you and you cant join the mway!.

god damn!,

i wish i was a traffic cop!, :rules::bat:
 
the thing with undertaking is that your dealing with people who are unobservant to the point where they dont realise they are in the wrong lane, that means there probably unobservant enough to not see you and move across into you as your undertaking

dangerous!

:plusone: to all of that. My other (related) hate is when people actively move into the joining lane on motorways, particularly when you have a two lane slip-road joining the main carriageway. I mean, how am I supposed to join the motorway then, fool?
 
Well the thing that annoys me is when i am in the lorry when a car is doing 50 on a motorway so you go and overtake and as you get halfway past the accelerate and undertake you so you move in and then they slow down again and so on and so forth GRRRRRRRR.
or you move over to let a car on the motorway and they accelerate and undertake you and that makes me look stupid so i dont move over anymore.

Rules in Germany are different on this, and they're different on the basis of scientific experiment (which amazed me!).

There when moving from two lanes to one, everyone MUST stay in the lane they are in (two lanes approaching the merge). Then at the front of the queue, everyone MUST let the other lane merge (typically turn about entering the open lane).

It's amazing how much more smoothly things move - the only reason can think is that you maximise use of the road and since everyone knows what's going on, you minimise speed changes as everyone accelerates, brakes, or jumps from one lane to the other.
 
i love it when im in lane two and someone starts to undertake me .i let them get halfway along the trailer then drift back into lane one , and then put the left indicator on , they normally find their brake by then , or go up the hard shoulder , or get squashed . i dont give a ***k coz i weigh anything from 17500kgs to 44000 kgs . and as they go by i shout I AM CONSIDERABLY LARGER THAN YOW . we like trucking and we like to truck yeah.. just wish i had a volvo and not a fu**ing merc pile of cr*p
 
chelsea tractors annoy the hell out of me they think they own the road
