A dead laptop and LR6, plus Edge in Windows 10

So yesterday the main laptop died with no warning, I can hear it boot to the Windows 7 welcome screen but there is nothing on the screen. Don't think its worth getting a replacement screen as it is a number of years old.

But LR6 that was on it was active. A quick look at Abode pages while at work seems to indicate that I will have to speak with Abode to get them to deactivate that licence (the other is on the desktop). Has anyone done this and how did you find the process?

Slowly transferring stuff to the small laptop which has windows 10 and Edge on it. On the old laptop I used to have internet favourites in folders so that I only needed to click on the arrow next to the folder and all the favourites in the that folder would appear on screen. I cannot see how to do that in Windows Edge, does any know if this is possible?

Hi Mark - if it's just the screen gone then you could borrow an external monitor to use with the laptop, do the various things that you need (like deactivating LR6, moving catalogues, bookmarks etc) for the new laptop to use. You can also take the old HDD out & put it in an external caddy for access to your files on the new laptop.

I should expect it possible to move your favourites across, but can't actually tell you how - you'll have to fiddle.

Also try shinning a bright light at the screen.

If it's the backlight that has gone you should be able to see (faintly) the screen contents. It's enough to get your data out.

It could be worth checking eBay for screen prices. Replacing one is not a difficult job and there are loads of how to vids on utube..

For what it's worth Adobe aren't that bad for this sort of thing.

I recently sold an old copy of Lightroom which required forms and paperwork to be submitted to them for transferring the licence. Was actually a nice quick process over live chat.

TBH I've installed and reinstalled my copy of LR5 multiple times on 3 different machines without any trouble at all.

Personally find the Edge explorer to be pants...

I continue using IE11 and Chrome. Internet Explorer still lives on Windows 10.

Display - use an external monitor and/or torch to check what the issue is.

LR6 - Adobe support should be able to help you.

Edge - use it to download a proper browser (Chrome, Firefox or Opera). Never open it again.

Thanks Steve, tried the light trick and it does seem its the back-lighting that has failed. Going to try with a better torch when back up north and will have the monitor then also, in meantime will look to see about spares.

Thanks Mark and Andy, got to agreed after a week of trying to get along Edge is pants. Going to go back to IE for the time being.
