Yes
I recently did a favour for a friend inside Peckford Castle, The owner has now asked her if he can use the photos in next years wedding brouchure.
Im not going to give them for free but what or how do you decide a price? i did a 6hour photo shoot with two models in various rooms of this stunning hotel/castle.

http://www.peckfortoncastle.co.uk/

There are around 50 images that are good enough and have been edited accordingly. not sure how many peckford castle will use and of course will be linking them to me. But what to charge?

how much did he charge to use the castle ?

You really have a good position her if they want the pictures badly, discounted rates to shot in their hotel/grounds? Free advertising space on thier broucher? Or just hard cash.... or maybe a combo. What ever you feel their are worth you should charge and not feel bad about it, if your pictures convince a couple to use their premisies how much will the pictures be worth to the hotel?

The girl used the castle for free, she owns a wedding dress shop. one of her models knew the owner of the castle and so she asked him at random and he loaned us some rooms for free for a few hours!
To hire the castle it will be alot a wedding their must be 15k to 20k at least! He already wants to put my advertising down in the album, and i have at present just asked him to make me a offer. he owns a aston martin and a ****ing great castle im hoping for a good offer!

I hope your right but the main reason people get to own an Aston and a ****ing great castle is because they are TIGHT thou .

He probably owns the Aston and castle because he makes low offers on stuff and saves his hard earned cash!

There is no way that I would allow a business person to make me an offer. He may be minted, but that doesn't mean he'll feel generous with his ££'s. I have no idea how much to suggest, but don't think that is the best way to appraoch a price if you want it to be fair.

I met him and he isnt the tight type but i do agree that his offer wont be what im after. i will ask for higher then whatever he offers and see where it goes! I was just a bit excited by the email and replyed in the middle of a meeting. even if i give them to him for free its excellent for my upstarting photography company and is another big tick in my portfolio! but money is also lovely stuff!

I would definitley ask for your name and company to be mentioned in the broucher as either an advertisment it or a credit for providing the pictures.

Could you use the castle for future shoots. If so you could come to an agreement for a number of Room/days for future shoots .

Also how about suggesting that they display some of the images in the hotel, with a credit to you. It's one form of advertising that could get you more business, especially if you are after the wedding market

if he's going to give you a free advert give him a few free too..fantastic way to get work...

Yes this is an interesting thread, let us know how you get on.

I have just had a cover image published this month for a Kent Family magazine, I negotiated a free advert, credit line and listing on their website. At the end of the day it is great exposure for you, try to come to a mutual agreement. It is win win if you ask me.

Good luck

Just an FYI, this place charges £10,000 a day for exclusive use for a wedding, i know because we looked at it when we were getting married. I think its £5-6k a day without exclusivity.

They have premier footballers marry there etc.

My advice (and what I often do) is to have a look for similar images on Alamy and use their price structures...

Gives you a good idea...you can then either go higher or lower depending on your personal tastes.

For example, Alamy has 242 images when search terms "bride castle" are entered. Some are RF ( :cuckoo: ) but most are Rights Managed.

Entering in some details (full page image, inside a brochure with a print-run of upto 5,000 used for 1 year) yields a price of £350.00 per image.

As a ballpark, that's probably not too bad...you personally might want to trim that down a bit as it was "a favour" but it's up to you. If he wants the shots that badly then you may get lucky. It's better to start high and negotiate down rather than start too low and get stuck with it.

Why not ask if you can have exclusivity (sp) rights to shoot all weddings that are booked at the castle? kinda like a package deal. Book venue, tog (you) provided as part of the package?

because that is the stupidest thing ever, as a Tog he would soon get bored of the location, and as a venue people would choose not to book there as his style may not suit everyone.

Fee wise, it all depends on what you usually charge everyones prices are different.

You say that, but I've been to a number of weddings recently (as a guest) where the couple pick the photographer that is "official" for the venue...with no regard to the style of the photos.

Are you married? looking to get married ? how about free venue, catering etc & your name/advert in the brochure ?

Then its not costing him much and you get to have a great wedding at greatly reduced costs (ie no venue or catering fees)

of course if you are married or not looking to get married then this suggestion is useless

Award winning Cheshire hotel Peckforton Castle now offers even more magic with the addition of ten opulent en-suite bedrooms following a £1.7 million investment programme, which also includes the brand new 2010 Brasserie at Peckforton Castle and luxury beauty treatment facility Tranquility at Peckforton Castle.

Doesnt have to be a cast iron arrangement. He & the venue could position himself as the venues preferred photographer, but with the option the B&G get to pick their own if they see fit.

Not really a stupid idea if you can think of ways to make it work for yourself and the venue.

Also, it could provide a nice little earner if he gets regular work from it without having the expense of a typical photographer who advertises toward the marriage sector. No advertising costs as the venue cover that. Referals again dealt with by the venue.

Yeah my mate got married there 3 years ago, £10k it cost and that was on a sunday, they wanted a lot more for a saturday, put a good price in.

Me ? I'm a referrals kind of guy. I've made good money by being recommended after giving a few shots away. Get a commitment for credits wherever your shots are used. Try to get a link from his web site. Might be more advantageous than a one off payment.
Remember....it's WHO you know...
