It's getting to the point in time where I have to realise my folks aren't going to be around forever. They are getting on now and finding daily jobs more strenuous than normal. So every night after work I've been going round to help them tidy and sort everything out. Just recently I came across this little beauty:D. Completely forgot they had it still sitting around in the garage attic. It was the bike I learnt to ride on after my brother and sister had it. I'm thinking along the lines of restoring it. I'm a spray painter by trade so it should be a nice wee project for me and the kids.

That's amazing.
Keep it and restore it to it's former glory.
Above all treasure your parents.
Mine have been gone 21 and 11 years.
You can't get it back.

Cheers, I always do. Hopefully they still have some years in them yet. My dad is 82 now but he still goes skiing and has just bought a new KTM motorbike. When it comes to riding push bikes or general fitness I can't keep up with my mum and shes 67 :D

Ahh a budgie! Yes, definitely restore it.

I'll take it into work one day and match the paint up. I don't know where I would get hold of some new decals for it though so I might have to get my air brush out and I know some one who can redo the chrome for me as well. Should be a good project.

Sounds like a great thing to do. My dad kept the car he got me that I used until around age 3 or 4. Kept it for 32 years or so in the attic until I had my first son a few years ago, restored it beautifully and his grandson has been going round in it ever since and absolutely loves it (and has taken most of the new paintwork off, which is now decorating most corners and edges in the house!). I'm going to try and do the same for my son once he stops using it.

I still have loads of things from when I was a kid that my kids now play with. I swear my parents are hoarders but it's come in handy and nice to see all my old stuff back in action.

Ah the Budgie. I had a purple chopper when I were a lad.

Steady.

I had a ride on it last night, everything is working great. It still makes the tik tik tik tik noise when you pedal. I don't know if it's meant to do that but it's too much of a regular noise to be any problems with bearings.

The decals are available on ebay from the USA

You are still talking about the bicycle, yes?
