Yes
I was introduced to a guy on my street my another neighbour while walking the dog with the family yesterday.

I had my D700 with me with a 24-70 2.8 that a mate very kindly lent me after I lost my entire lens collection in a burglary a couple of weeks ago.

He asked about the camera and I told him about the burglary. He told me that he is the Chief Executive of Jessops and that if I need any help then to give him a shout. Later that afternoon he dropped a business card with a note reiterating his offer through the letterbox.

Not what I expected when walking the dog!

I dated Alan Jessop's Daughter, but thats another story :naughty::naughty:

Great news Pete. So sorry to hear about your burglary. It happened to me last last year and I wouldn't wish that on anyone - horrible experience.

I'm a big fan of Jessops (yes I know I'm in the minority) so it's great to hear such a good-news story.

I thought he was gonna say I have some stuff for sale, in the back of my van type thing..........

Tap him up for some stuff Pete.

Sorry to hear bout the burglary mate. That's my worse nightmare.

And a great story.
Bit curious as to how he could help
Other than donating some kit to you!!

He'll get his local store to get all the items in stock and ready to be paid for so he's not waiting around for too long :D

It always causes a reaction in me to hear tales like this. People are very pleasant, very kind, very stupid, very nasty in equal measure, you never know what you're going to get! You tend to hear the bad bruted on the news etc, but it's heartening to also hear the other side. Someone going out of their way to be nice is good to hear.

I'm certainly not expecting any freebies, but I did wonder what he could do. He seemed like a good guy, I'd be quite happy to have a couple of beers wth him and discuss the industry.

The synic in me thinks he's just looking for a big sale from someone with a lot of insurance money to replace their big loss. he knows you're going to by buying more kit so it may as well be from Jessops.

Having said that, he may just be a genuinely nice guy.

cannot possibly see how he can help so I'd wait till something concrete happens before showering the company and chap with praise.

As others have said, it's not really service until you find out what exactly he is offering. If him offering was that he'll get you to rebuy all your gear from jessops when your insurance cheque arrives then it's more good timing by him for bumping into you.

If it's that he'll let you use his 30% discount to rebuy ll your stuff then great story

lol, well no, I mean I would imagine thats what he is suggesting, 30% off or something, but until he does its just a story about you meeting a businessman !

If I'd have known you could have given him a big Thank You from me, last year they let me have a Sigma 100-300 f4 at that time priced at £1230 for £499 due to an internet price error on their website........I like Jessops.....A LOT!!
Dave

You could mention to him this really cool website you know, mention its charitable deeds.. and that its members are really appreciative of prominent photographic retailers that sponsor competition prizes.. ;)

Good idea, sounds a great place  but, what's the name of the website

And tell him, he really doesn't need to bother using the search facility to look up his company's name on said website until any deal is done! :D

Have you put in a google search to see if its the same bloke?

Kathy?

I worked at head office for 20 years. All the family used to work there at some point until they sold the place and buggered off. Old man Frank used to turn up sometimes in his yellow Rolls Royce. They were quite miserable but nowhere near as bad as the management that bought the place out

He would hardly be in this for the cash sale and anyone who thinks he might is stupid.

He's potentialy met one of the people that keeps his company going and unlike a user group/forum, Pete is a neighbour.

Pete I would chase him up for that drink.

Pete, does this mean if anyone here has a problem with Jessops they can PM you and you will pop round and get it sorted....????
